This week marks two years ago that my darling husband had a hemmerhoidectomy. Worst decision of our lives. He has had nothing but pain, difficulty going to the bathroom, and is up in the middle of the night EVERY night for 30-60 minutes trying to "go". We have been back to the doctor many times...they have no remedy for him other than a high fiber diet, which he's been doing. He takes a fiber drink every night religiously, he drinks water, etc. He has done everything he has been told and it's still horrible.
Last fall we got so desperate, we found a "doctor" on the internet who had magical cures for these problems, and flew to Portland for three days of treatment. It was essentially some electric charge he inserted in my husband's anus, then he gave him "plugs" to use daily to stretch the opening. Nothing has had lasting effect.
He has been told by more than one doctor he does not have anal stenosis or colitis. At this point he is resigned to just having to live with it. Incidentally, he is only 52 years old.
If anyone has advice, we'd love to hear it. Otherwise, my reason for writing was to warn people to think long and hard about having this surgery. We had NO idea these kind of complications could happen.

I am so sorry about your spouse. I live in Portland and due to my issues post surgery, I was referred to a naturopath who specializes in rectal issues. My issues include too much pain and really bad constipation. I am wondering if you saw the same guy? I worry I may end up like your husband.
