Ive had kidney problems over the past year with constant infections and stones, ive had three operations to remove the large stones which are seen on CT scans however when ever they have gone in to get them they cant find them, they have now discovered that the CT scan shows them in a shadow behind my left kidney..which might mean I have a secondry system "third kidney" Ive just has another CT scan with a dye in my blood stream to see if the area can be see clearer

This is funny, I had a partial right kidney removed in 1997 due to kidney stone infection. Just weeks ago after a scan test, my family seems saying I now have three! How is that even possible? It seem this extra one is coming from nowhere! I suspect urologist will have some explaining to do in which I have an appointment with in few months. It would be great in getting some feedback beforehand! I am 52 year old!

I was born with 3 kidneys also… found out when I had a urinary infection when I was a kid. I have a twin left (2 complete kidney systems in one kidney on the left) and a partial extra on the right. So I guess 3 1/2 then. I was told by multiple urologists that 10% of the world has 3 kidneys… that is a very big number for this to not be more widely known. I have suffered from stones and kidney infections, but I just remain careful and drink a lot of water!! Don't the kidneys purify your system? Unfortunately my Dad had kidney cancer… he had one removed but all eyes were on me in case he needed one. More people should be aware of this topic!

I was born with 3 kidneys also. I'm 17 years old and have had nothing but problems all my life. I was born with the three kidneys and uterters. I had surgery when I was 3 1/2 to remove a non cancerous tumor from my bladder and to reconnect the uterters to the correct kidneys. I was in stage 4 almost stage 5 kidney disease. I had about 3 months before I needed a transplant. But the surgery happened before all that. I am thankful for the doctors that were able to fix my problems. I'm living a seemingly normal, healthy life.

Because you produce stones, you would not be a viable donor candidate. I can't tell you how many folks tell me that I should donate one. Bless their hearts, but they don't understand that just because you have spare parts doesn't mean they're healthy enough to donate.

I had the same thing but got it fixed in Houston when I was 2. I kept getting bladder infections & no one knew why then discovered I had 3 kidneys & the "flaps" are not working right so they gave me a new "pee hole" & haven't had any problems since I'm 21 now

Both sides of the family have more then just them with the mutation. Out of my siblings I am the only one with abnormal kidneys. I have never seen it hurt someone. It actually helped my aunt and my dad because they got In a really bad car wreck and both had one kidney almost die. Doctors say it would have if they didn't have three kidneys

I was also born with 3 functioning kidneys.one on left side 2 on left .one above the other.as a teenager I had extremely bad bladder infection. At 26 I has several test including a dye test. The results were 3very good functioning kidneys. A very good nephrologist told me no more carbonated drinks and his last order was to buy a 6 pack of beer.Drink one e very night with dinner.ten next to drink one every other night etc. Until was having 1beer a week.I would stop having infections. As he told me I would be using the potty a lot because the hops in beer stimulates urination. He also told me most alcoholic don't die from kidneys families they die of cerocises of the liver. One hospital gives there renal or. The beer of there choice at dinner. I have no more bladder infections I fell great. I willne70years old next month,, do my own remodeling in my home, do my lawns and never think about my 3kidneys.

I was also born with 2 kidneys on my left side and one on my right, only my 2 kidneys on my left side are both half the size of the one on my right. When I was younger I used to have problems with it all the time. I don't exactly remember why, just going to the doctor a lot. And even though I am only 12, I am really curious to find the answers to these questions myself for the future. So if you do end up finding the answers I would love it if you would share them with me.
