Hi. I'm 14 and I have 3 kidneys also! I have 3 cysts on one of them. I live everyday in fear that they are going to rupture. I go see the doctor every year. They have gotten bigger now. Does anyone else have cysts on their kidneys? I like telling people I have more than I should, but I would like to talk to someone who knows the fear I live in everyday.

Hi! I was also born with three kidneys! I almost thought i was alone! I got the extra one removed when i was 5 years old because i had too drink all the time and couldn't control my peeing. Now (22 years later) I'm living as normal. But I get pyleonefritis more easy.... so when i get urin infection I have to get treated or my kidneys suffers from it. If I could make that choice that you are doing, i would only get rid of the extra one if I had any problems in my normal life. Otherwise i would leave it there! But if you remove it, don't forget about the higher risk of infections in the kidneys! :) /Hugs from Sweden

I was born with 3 kidneys and got them removed when I was 5. I was also incontinent both day and night time before the operation. When the kidney was removed i was able too control it in the day time. The night incontinence continued until i was 17.. then my dad got me to see a doctor. I got a "pee alarm". I put it in my panties, and the "alarm" next to my ear. When it got wet it went of. 2 weeks later i was continent. Never had any problems again. Hope she gets help :) /Hugs from Sweden

My parents found out I had 3 kidneys through an MRI scan after a car accident when I was about 4. Didn't really have problems until I was fifteen and since then am consistently getting urinary tract infections. I also have extreme lower back pain during my menstral cycles which I assume is related to the extra kidney? I don't know for sure. My great-Aunt also has a third kidney but I'm not sure if it's actually hereditary. I'm really worried about getting kidney infections and kidney stones in the future. I've heard that a vitamin called D-Mannose is extremely helpful in treating recurrent UTI's - has anyone tried that? Really would like to not be in and out of doctor's offices for my whole life. I'm eighteen now and the constant infections have been hellish.

I went to register to give one of my third kidneys away yesterday.  I was thinking, wouldn't it be GREAT if I didn't pee as much after I give it away?  Has anyone else done this and what did you experience?

I am a 49 year old healthy female, I too have three kidneys. My mom was told when I was a baby. I never examined it, nor had I the need to tell any of my doctors. I was told that my three kidneys function as two. As one is twins and does not have a dual function.

Hello,

My daughter has three kidneys, 2 normal sized and one is much smaller but functioning. When she was an infant, it was determined that the ureters were entering her bladder at a higher point than normal and this caused reflux or urine to back up which caused her to leak and aquire UTI's. (very painful). The remedy for this was to reposition the ureters to a lower point in her bladder so that they would drain completely. We were told that if we had not seen this as an infant, she would complain about, "leaking" later in life and present more frequently with infections. It has been 19 years since we went through this so I might not have all the anatomy correct but hopefully this can lead you to a fruitful discussion with a urologist to get some relief!

I was born with three kidneys. I am not sure how everyone else determined that they did also, but I found out because I had severe pain in my side and passed out. It turned out I had three full sized kidneys, but one was not functioning properly and inhibiting the other two from performing. I removed the non-functioning kidney and some of another and now have one and a half kidneys. Prior to this pain, I had never had a kidney infection, but now I get them once a year. I also have had incontinence my entire life - I am now 26 years old. If it is not negatively affecting your life, and you aren't having constant kidney infections, I wouldn't worry about it. Ask your doctor if you have concerns. He/she will be a better guide on next steps.

My 3 kidneys have raised a few eyebrows over the years!! lol At age 9 I would pass out on the playground at school. My parents took me to the ER, where they did a complete work up and found I have 3 kidneys. My discomfort and sometimes aganizing pain on my left side was because when I ran the two kidney's on the left side would bang together and both would become bruised. After that discovery, I was excused from gym all thru school and never had the problem of bruised kidneys again. I am now 62 and all three still work fine, never had kidney stones but several hard to get rid of kidney or bladder or urinary trac infections a year. I have had several complete check ups and always find all 3 kidneys in functioning condition. I always hoped if anyone in my family ever needed a kidney that I could come to their rescue, but no need yet. Good luck to everyone of you.

I am 48 yrs old. I have 3 kidneys. 2 small on the left and one full size on the right. About when I was 2 1/2 yrs old I was having continual UTI's. I was then diagnosed with the 3 kidneys, where one was not draining properly. I had surgery just before I turned 3. And as of todate. I have had no issues with my 3 kidneys. Occasionally a UTI but not very often. Good Luck
