I'm a female who was born with three kidneys, two were normal and the third was small and it's ureter didn't go to my bladder. Instead, it bypassed it and went out somewhere down there by my urethra. The result was constant uncontrolled slow urine flow from the third kidney which caused a constant severe rash (diaper rash) for unknown reasons. Finally, nearly at age 10, I was diagnosed by a doctor who investigated this thoroughly enough to figure out what the problem was and I had the third kidney removed. Dry for the first time in my life. It has been a traumatic adulthood and sexuality with dealing with the childhood stresses and well established ways I developed (i.e. neuroses) to hide my shame and embarrassment. Has anyone else had a similar third kidney whose urine bypassed your bladder?

Keep yourself especially your feet extra arm always. I used to as well till my Dr told me to do this. And I haven't had a kidney infection in almost 10 years now. Where as I used to get them at least 10 times a year.

two months ago, i did a kidney stone surgery. The doctor told me that i have three kidneys! 2 on the right side with two different tubes attached to the bladder and one on the left side. Three are functional well but the third on the right is somehow smaller than original. i was shocked when i knew that i have three kidneys but the doctor told as soon as three of them are functioning well no need to be worried. i drink alot of water like a camel! i am always thirsty. i pee normally as any other person, but the amount of water i drink per day is too much comparing to others and it becomes a habit to drink such amount of water. Sometimes i feel the pain like needles from the right kidneys maybe because of kidney stones and i always have high uric acid. Honestly, i am not giving it much attention as long as i am fine. I am now 36 years old.

I was told at 18years old I should have the extra one removed, after having over 20 attacks of chronic kidney infections in one year, I refused and I'm glad I did.
30years later and a nutritionist later I understand how to look after my kidney function.
A. Drink 2 ltr's of water per day, only warn water after 7pm at night
B. A maximum of 4-6 units of alcohol per week, but avoid if you can
C. Eat a good balanced diet, watch your citrus intake too much can cause kidney discomfort
D. Try keep stress to a minimum, not always easy
E. Do not do too much strenuous excercise
F. Get enough sleep otherwise you leave yourself open to fatigue, not good for the kidneys.
I had a new scan and the radiologist was quite surprised to find a fully functioning third distinct kidney with all the extras you would normally have with a standard kidney.
Good luck to everyone with a third kidney
