I'm interested in knowing some details about this drug. I have heard that you can only use it when you are actually experiencing withdrawal syptoms from opiates and not before. Is this true? I also heard of Doctors just giving out 2 or 3 tabs? is this true all you need is these tabs and your addiction is better? Thanks for your help guys

I was in the Poat study group for Suboxone. They actually paid me for taking the drug and I successfully got of Lortabs. I am very grateful. But now I must go to a doctor, once a month, and they charge $250 a visit. Plus the pills cost $6 each. I get a refill every week but have seen people get one at a time because of the cost.
The doctors like for you to be in withdrawal at your first visit to see if suboxone will work for you. It's instant - almost - relief.
So, I have been on the medicine for almost 2 years and the horrific thing is being broke and unable to afford the doctor visit. Then you experience withdrawal which is not as bad as with opiates, but almost.

Taking box helps you to not want to do "get high" It blocks the receptors in your brain and helps with the desire to "smoke up" "shoot up" however you go about it.

What i meant by "buying it from the streets" is some folks who are on it decide not to be and sell it. A lot of it is stolen. She had a "friend" who was a licensed, (i said was) pharmacist and he would get her pretty much everything she wanted. She would get a bunch of box and push it on the street to get more money to buy her heroin.
Many people are so strung out and geekin that they turn to the street because they can't get their drug of choice. My daughter would have 2 bucks in her pocket and take pop bottles back just to get a single box, she had not enough cash for her heroin. I will admit she was so sick one day that i picked her up and took her to get a couple pills. Does that make it wrong, i don't know. I wasn't about to buy her heroin and i couldn't stand to see her so sick.

Ok so let me ask 1 more question. I have been clean now for 3 days with no withdrawal symptoms. been taking opiates for about 4 month with a dosage of 40-50mg a day. Sometimes higher sometimes lower......so am i pretty much in the clear with the withdrawal symptoms? It wouldn't be worth doing suboxone right?

Hey karen, a few days of staring at the tv and not understanding what's going on could maybe be a good thing. I know i have not walked in your shoes but i was as close to squeezing in them as i was ever going to get. Watching my child suffer with withdrawls was heart breaking, but i could see the light at the end of that tunnel.
It took her about 5 days before she pulled her head out from under the pillow, and she looked bad, and i mean bad. She had no choice as i had her arrested. Medical does not issue box or methadone in jail unless your pregnant. If your a drunk and your detoxing in the tank, they will give you anabuse (wrong spelling) this is so you don't go into convulsions, one can die from alcohol withdrawl, not so much from a drug detox.
After 5 or 6 days she got up. I went for a visit and i cried right away, she looked like walking death. She spent another 9 weeks in jail and everyday got a tiny bit easier, (health wise)
The next time i saw her she had gained some weight, her skin was starting to clear up and i could see that familiar sparkle coming back into her eyes. The bad part was her veins were all collapsed in her arms and to this day she wears long sleeves.
What i'm trying to say is that if you want to not have to be dependent on this drug, it's up to you. You can sign yourself into a 3 day detox program. Make sure you tell them that you don't want the help of methadone either. You will feel like death, but they will take of you. In about a week, the worst will be over. What is a week if it means getting the rest of your life back? I know so many folks who will probably spend the rest of their days either on suboxone or methadone, but you don't have to.
Like i said, i will never know how it feels, and honestly i don't want to know, but watching my child suffer and puke and c**p and cry was enough for me.
Think about it for a minute. This is just from my own personnel experience, everyone is different, everyone feels different about detoxing and withdrawing. But soon enough it's over and your free again. A little pill no longer controls your very existance. Each time you run short of cash and can't get your meds, you start to withdraw, obviously, you get part way thru it and manage to get a fix if you will, now the process begins again. You got semi way way into it, there wasn't that much farther to go, you were on your way to freedom.
Do you have a good friend that you can trust? What about mom/dad? You just need someone around you for a little while, that's all. You can do it by yourself but it's really nice to have someone that you can "b***h" at in the process and they will certainly understand.
If you want to chat or just blow off some steam, i'm usually floating around some where here, just log on as there are many knowledgable and friendly folks here that can talk to you as well.

Thanks for the encouraging words. yeah i thought that I would be good, However there was someone else who said to me sometimes the actuall withdrawal doesn't come until the 3rd or 4th day. Most people do say that the withdrawal comes right away so i thought so....... Right now to be honest I feel fine. No symptoms at all. I mean don't get me wrong I wouldn't mine taking a few vicodine's about now, but i'm not going to. That life was making me crazy....... Thanks for your help.

well I was taking up to 20 lortabs a day and using 5 different doctors for about 6 months...It was driving me crazy because i wasnt getting any help taking them anymore..So i did some research on line about suboxone and found a list of 33 doctors in my area that were certifted to treat me..I started calling from the top of the list and they all were 300-800 for the first visit and that didnt inclued the prscription. So i kept calling and hoping i could find someone cheaper and i did...i found a doctor for 65 dollars and she monitored me for 3 hours while i was on my first dose of suboxone..wow i was hurting so bad when i walked in there....I have tried to stop on my own and the pain and all the side effects were way to heavy and hurt so bad. Im so greatful that i kept looking and had faith...Keep looking and searching for help and never give up never.....my info is on here if you need to talk to someone ....
