Panic attacks are really difficult to deal with, and I am certain that they are part of your quitting smoking. It seems that your brain has developed some sort of dependence on smoking and now you need to get over it. What I think would be a good idea is to try googling "panic cure" and going to the websites that pop up. There are some good exercises you can do to deal with panic attacks. Believe me, they're very scary, but they're harmless. Once you learn to deal with them, they fade. Keep us posted!

I had panic attack and anxiety issues in April and May of '08 when i quit ted smoking in April of last year. My doctor prescribed one month of mild dose of medication (lorazepam (?)) for my anxiety and panic issues, it helped. Also keep your coffee drink down, since caffein will worse your panic attacks.

I know exactly where you are coming from. i too have experienced panic attacks. The thing to remember is that you are SAFE, slow down your breathing - try saying the alphabet backwards or counting down from 100 in lots of 7. Do this whilst you are in the middle of a panic attack and it reduces the symptoms. no caffiene. Since I have given up - 5 1/2months ago I can no longer drink caffiene - gives me heart palpitations. If panic attacks do not reduce - see someone - hypnosis also helped for me...hang in there - you will soon start feeling back to normal.. i was really sick for a few weeks however now I feel great and it was all worth it....take care :-)
