I also have spotted.....at least for two years now...however I did join a hot yoga class and was going about two to three times a week. I started to notice that my spotting was totally going away as well my periods were getting shorter. I used to spot for 7 to 4 days before my period and when I got my period it would last approx 7 days....after hot yoga there was no spotting and my period only lasted approx three days....Have to say the hot yoga was a bit of a commitment and I haven't done it since the summer and low and behold my period is back to spotting and 7 days of heavy bleeding...So I think I will be going back to the yoga studio for sure! Also a great work out and I hear it balances the hormone levels of the body.....so something to think about! Thanks for all of your info!!

I too have the same 4-6 days of spotting before my period that everyone else has mentioned. I have also had all the tests done and keep being told that everything is fine. I have been taking herbs (Traditional Chinese Medicine) for the last 6 months and the spotting changed to a lighter brown but it hasn't shortened. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last 2.5 years and I'm convinced this spotting has something to do with us not getting pregnant. We will be moving on to doing IUI next month but I'm worried that it will just be a waste of money. I had a physical exam last week by another doctor and he said the bleeding is coming from the cervix. He said it's normal-something about lots of tiny blood vessels that bleed. I don't get why they bleed on cue every month though!!!! Anyway, he ended up cauterizing my cervix using what looked like giant matchsticks. He just scraped my cervix with them. He said he might have to repeat the procedure 2 or 3 times but is should stop the bleeding. I will have to see what happens next month. I had a different Dr. do a physical exam in the summer and he said the spotting was coming from the uterus. He put me on progesterone suppositories. They worked for 3 months and then in the 4 month the spotting started again. I am so confused and have lost all faith in Dr.'s. This thread is 5 years old now, I would be interested to know if anyone has found any answers that they could share and for those TTC iif they have had any success.

I am the exact same way, have been for years...until this month. I am supposed to start my period in 2 days but didn't spot last week. I've read anecdotes of women who had the same spotting, until they got pregnant. So I'm a bit freaked at the moment.
Regarding the spotting, I have just been told that's how some women are, and it's totally normal.

Hi there, wondered how things were going for you now? I am trying to conceive but have spotting before my period and I am wondering if this is the problem (or whatever is causing the spotting). I have always had spotting for a few days before my period since they came back after I had my son. When I conceived my son I never spotted before my period.

I know this is an old post but it seems like the most helpful thread that I have found and I am wondering if anyone has had any luck finding answers. I have been on the pill for about 6 years (about a year after I had my son) and I was on the pill for about 10 years before I had my son. For the last year or so, I have had spotting about a week before my period starts. However, it does not happen every month (usually it happens every other month). About a year ago when it first happened, I had a vaginal ultrasound and everything looked ok (no tumors or fibroids). My gyno only commented that I have an inverted (not sure if this is the exact word) uterus. I thought that the irregular bleeding might have to do with the generic form of bc I was taking because my insurance company started changing the generic brands they would send me. I thought that possibly it had to do with differences in the brands. I do not remember my other gyno ever mentioning my inverted uterus during or before my pregnancy. In the past 2 years I have been taking thyroid medicine for my under active thyroid. I had a LEEP procedure 2 years after my son was born, but the doctor said it was not severe. I have had this twinge like pain in my abdomen off and on for about 3 years. Every time I start spotting before my period, I am super stressed out and think the worst.  My gyno seems to think I'm fine, but I don't feel that's the case. I am 38 and feel like it is too early to start going through menopause. Anyway, I just had to say what my experience has been in case someone has has experienced this too. Sorry for the long post. I am going to see an endocrinologist next week and my gyno again in about a month to see what other testing I could have done.Â

I have been on various birth control pills since I was 16, I am now 36. I have never been pregnant. For 3 years have been spotting all month long, brown stuff most of the time, Sometimes really bad like chunks of dead flesh. I have cramps most all month long. I don't have discharge for maybe 3 days a month. I have real periods every two weeks lasting 6 or 7 days. Even on the pill I can feel one ovary or the other switch on every other month. I am pretty sure I ovulate on the pill. In March I had umbiblical hernia surgery. They found endometriosis cells in my biopsy. Been to two gynocologists- nothing helps. I don't have hormonal imbalance or stds or anything they can find.
I went off the pill one for about 10 months. During that time of being off the pill:I gained 15 pounds, grew excessive facial hair, my voice deepened, I broke out in acne on my face, back, shoulders and chest. I had extreme mood swings, killer cramps and nonstop bleeding. Dr. said, "go back on the pill". Been back on the pill 10 months again - Cramps are slightly better, still spoting much of the month, achne gone, voice normal, facial hair mostly normal, weight returning slowly to normal. Even if I have some kind of polycyctic ovary problem, which according to my personal research sounds like the case. Doctors don't treat you for endometriosis unless you are trying to conceive or have already gone through metapause, or show precancer cells.
I guess I am supposed to suffer for the next 15 years. You get tired and moody after spotting all month and getting two periods. It is not good for your home life/relationships/sex life. Trying a different pill next month. Hopefully it is the miracle, but I am a realist. I know personally that following surgery, it can really mess up your moods, and periods for several months so keep that in mind. Also a contributing factor may be marathon training, or extreme exercise. Those are considerations to take into account if my personal story sounds like you. MY BMI is also slightly about normal by about 5 pounds. Which it was not 3 years ago. Though I almost have that problem solved.
