I have yet to find a solution (mind you I haven't been getting lots of tests etc done) but I did have a doctor tell me that it is because my progesterone levels are off. Having been on BC for so long, my body needs to rebalance, and she said it can take over two years (since I'm almost at two years and it hasn't stopped)

I was told the same about progesterone. And I was taking it in high doses. But I didn’t like the side effects. And I read a lot how it can damage bones and something else (can’t remember anymore). I had hot flashes at night. It did stop the spotting. Not completely but like I would spot just day or two instead of 7-10. So I stopped because of side effects. Spotting came back. Then I found out about high doses of vitamin B6. U was taking about 50-100mg per day. It also helped reducing days to 1-2. But now I am not taking because it’s probably not that good too. It says that big doses of vit B can change heart rhythm (I had that too). Also together with vit B complex I was taking Maca powder. They say it is the best to balance hormones. Will give a pause for month or two and start this two again I guess. I think we need to look for natural ways to improve progesterone levels with herbs and vitamins instead of chemical progesterone.
P.s. I was on BC about 15 years ago for couple of years and I was fine when I stopped them. My spotting started about 10 years ago after I had servical treatment (some bad cells removed).

Hi guys,

I am having the same issue. I took birth control from when I was 15-21, then I was off of birth control for about 5 years because my ex couldn’t have kids. I left him and went back on birth control (the same kind I took as before). Anyways, I went back on the birth control and I have been spotting/bleeding about 2 weeks after my period FOR TEN MONTHS. So basically I have 2 weeks no period and 2 weeks a period. I have hypothyroidism but I take my medicine religylaryl. I’ve tried tumeric and ginger as well as ibuprofen. I drank turmeric tea (1 tsp turmeric in hot water with ginger tea bag as well) twice a day for a couple months and it helped but now the past 2 months the spottIng is back. It’s like light pink/light purple-ish. I am so sad and frustraed. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an IVF patient. Normally regular. Miscarriage in July. D&C in Aug, Hysteroscopy in September, where they removed a "normal" fibroid.
My period in October was a nightmare. At first I thought I was pregnant again. Spotted 10 days early. Then I kept spotting and I knew something was up. Light enough to sometimes need a pantyliner, sometimes spotted only wiping. Then the day before my period heavier, but still brown. Then the day I was due, it came just gushing out. Managed to hide it at work but left immediately, sitting on a car mat to protect my seat. Called fiance in a panic. Thought I was miscarrying despite my recent negative blood work. My pants looked like a murder scene. Scared the sh*t out of fiance. I put in a tampon and showered to get ready to go to the fertility clinic. Not 5 minutes later, I'm bleeding through the tampon in the shower.
Long story short, all tests came back fine. Everybody assured me it was all normal.
Every month since I've been spotting 9ish days before I get my period. Not heavy like that day, normal flow. Still no answers.
Fertility doctors ignore it. They are in the baby making business not the figuring out infertility business.

I'm actually crying this is the first time I've even found so many people like me. Mine originally started around 10 years ago where with a year I had started an anti-depressant and the mini pill (took combined for years with no issue) I feel it's gotten worse over the years but I've always been told oh it will just get better over time. I've had all the tests\exams mentioned by nearly all of you and of course came back fine. From start to finish I can last 2-3 weeks with is killing intimacy with my partner because I feel disgusting I used to think I was rotting inside for god's sake. I start with brown discharge then brown spotting sometimes I notice red blood after going to the bathroom during this. My period starts and lasts 2-3 days after which I'm back to brown spotting and discharge before nothing. I was normal from 13 to 21, never longer than a week always red. I'm of my depression medication now after 11 long years because I was desperate to try anything to fix my periods and make me normal again but still no change. I get so down about it and hope all of our issues are resolved one day. I just hate how much my period makes me hate myself. I don't feel like a woman I just feel broken :'(

Hi! I’m 19 and just like you, I’ve been having blood(red) color dropping after urinating for 3 times now since last year, I noticed that it happens after my ovulation. I have this app that helps me monitor my cycles. But I’m still worried about it even though I don’t feel any pain at all just sometimes I feel like I’m hungry and realize that I’m not but actually I was just having dyspepsia or I don’t know. I have been with my boyfriend before this all started we have sexual intercourse once in a while but we use protection tho. I tried going to laboratory and have my urinalysis but everything went well, this week I’m getting an ultrasound and finally seeing my doctor I really jope it goes well.

Hello ladies...man it feels good to be in the same company as others. It definitely seems like you’re the only one it’s happening to. Well I’ve been dealing with this since 2007 right before I got off birth control. It started with just bleeding during sex which KILLED my sex life. I never knew when it would happen. Then it morphed into the pre-bleeding. I was able to manage it for about 3-4 years. But it was all diet related. I pretty much took out sugar, processed food and bread. I also increased my vitamin intake and even though I’m a vegetarian I started taking fish oil. In 2016, we were trying to conceive but I found out I was growing a tumor in my colon instead. I was severely anemic and had to have blood transfusions. Once I healed from the surgery I fell off my diet. I am trying to put on weight so I gave myself the ok to start eating the surgery...fatty foods. BIG MISTAKE. I still take my vitamins and I’ve added magnesium (so important) but I also fell off with the fish oil. :-/ I learned that if you crave salty...fried foods you need EFAS (essential fatty acids). I’m all over the place with this message...sorry. I just turned 39...ttc...just spotted the brown blood for 5 days before my period started and I’m using the clear blue ovulation strips and so far no happy face. What worked for me was: cut the sugar, add cod liver oil, add hot yoga or just exercise and reducing the stress. I will never go back to bc because it is not an answer. It’s a bandaid and our medical model loves bandaids. Oh ladies...we are such amazing creatures we can figure this out. It takes a lot of work and research and time but WE CAN DO IT! Sending you all light and love!

Hi Everyone- I know this is an older post but I am reading all of your stories and a lot of them sound exactly like what I am experiencing. I was on BC for about 8 years and when I stopped taking it my periods became irregular. At first, I was skipping a couple months at a time which was to be expected. Once they got back on track every month, I started having a couple days of brown spotting for about 2 days before my period would start, then it graduated to a full 5 to sometimes 8 days of spotting before starting my actual 7-day period. I let this go on without any questions for about a year bc I assumed it was a result of my hormones balancing back out after BC for so many yrs. After the 2 yr mark I began going to the gyn to discuss the issue and they sent me for all kinds of tests. I also had high prolactin levels and a thickened endometrial lining so I went for a brain MRI to rule out Pituitary tumor. Another doctor recommended a try taking a low dose of Progesterone each month for 10 days and it did help the spotting for about 3 months and as of last month it started up again. The progesterone did not cure It all together but it reduced spotting to 2-3 days, which I felt was pretty normal. I don't know a lot about progesterone but I know that I do not want to take it for extended periods and I worked about the side effects. Does anyone have any insight on treatments, whether prescription or natural? My biggest fear is that it is something more serious like endometrial cancer and that I haven't been diagnosed.

I have had the same issue for 2 years, I am just starting a new supplement called Vitex which is supposed to help with progesterone deficiency and regulating menstrual cycles. Hopefully this will help as I'm getting desperate. Thought I would share my story as I was always searching these types of threads for some sort of explanation to my spotting. Little back story - started my periods at 13, always around 5 days long, medium to heavy flow and painful. Went on the pill at 16 to help with the pain as it was so bad. Decided to come off the pill at 19 (I think) as I just didn't like the idea of hormonal bc anymore. It took 2 months for me to get my first period after that, cycles gradually got shorter until they settled around 32 days long, but every cycle would be accompanied by brown spotting from around 6/7 dpo until I got my actual period, which would then last 2/3 days and be pretty light. This has been the norm for me now for 7 YEARS. I always knew this wasn't right and was constantly worried about not being able to conceive when the time came. In those 7 years I went to multiple doctors multiple times, had bloods (all normal), tried progesterone which didn't help, even went back on the pill for a few months and still got the spotting. Finally went for an ultrasound a couple of years ago and they told me they didn't see anything. May 2018 and I am fed up. Went to a new drs surgery and insisted something needed to be done. She sent me for another ultrasound where they saw a small paraovarian cyst (which was apparently there on my last scan they just hadn't told me). Following that as there was still nothing conclusive she referred me to a consultant who agreed to do a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Honestly I thought they would find ends when they went in, but I just had it done on the 18th Sept and they removed the cyst and also a polyp in my uterus. No endo. My consultant thinks that the polyp could have been the cause of all my spotting. I'm yet to have a period following the surgery but interested to see if this clears everything up. I've read that a hormone imbalance & increase in oestrogen can cause polyps and I'm convinced it was going on the pill the first time which caused this for me. Sorry it's such a long story but I'm so glad I have an answer now and feel hopeful that when we come to ttc next year all will be ok!
