Hi, I am having the same problem as you. I have regular, 28 day cycles but spot anywhere from 1-2 weeks before my actual period. Prior to the pill I didn't have this issue either.
Ultrasound showed polycystic ovaries but blood tests are normal so I was told I don't have PCOS, also no other symptoms of PCOS. From what I can see from looking online, it seems quite a few of us who have this spotting also have polycystic ovaries.
We have also not used contraception for the last year and have not become pregnant, so I personally feel this is effecting my fertility too.
I have started to get this investigated again and my doctor has been helpful. They feel that it is likely low progesterone levels. I have started a trial of metformin (to treat PCO) to see if this boosts ovulation. (no improvement in spotting in the 1st cycle though :-(
I am waiting day 21 progesterone test results and will start on progesterone tablets if low.
I was also brushed off by previous doctors. But this is not normal and is a hassle to deal with so I would encourage you to find a doctor who will help you with this issue.
Let me know if you find out any solution to this problems.
Good luck!

Hi there, I have been on Marvelon pill since I was 16 and up till now everything has been ok - I could have gone back to back for 2 months for 2 years and everything was working perfectly. I am 22 now and the last say 5 months I'm having this spotting about 5-6 before my period, it's brown/pink and it's very annoying. Went to nurse and she said we can change the pills to Lucette which we did and I am finishing my first strip but yet again spotting before my period. Everything is always normal, no pains, just normal period for say 5 days and then back to normal, just this annoying spotting. Even when I go back to back my body seems to notice my period is meant to come (even though still on pill) and I have spotting 'before' the period that won't come as I go back to back. Hope that all makes sense. Don't know what is on blame?

Mireya made this issue so much worse for me. The spotting was all month instead of just a few days.

I am so relieved that Im not the only person with this issue. I have a 6 1/2 yr old and was on bc prior to getting pregnant and after. Ive been trying to get pregnant again the past 2 1/2 years and for the past 3-4 years I have been dealing with spotting 1-8 days before my period. the color ranges from tan to brown to pink and red. ive had every test ran from a obgyn and midwife and no one knows whats wrong. i feel depressed and defeated. not only am i not getting pregnant but my spotting is taking a toll on me and my sex life.

I'm the same. It ruins my sex life and makes me feel so down. I've been googling about it a lot. And no one have found the cure yet :( I'm trying Maca root and Vit B6 ( high doses) but it's not a month yet so can't say is it going to help. Maca supposed to be the best for balancing the hormones and B6 has something to do with holding mences in place. As this spotting in my case I'm sure is because of progesterone falling to low.

Hello everyone I have the same problem. I have spotting for about 5 days before my period starts. My doc
Said it could be to low progesterone. Another thing it could be is either fibroids or endometriosis. See if your dr can answer some questions for your about the two medical issues I stated. Endo can cause bleeding almost always which can be very frustrating.

I was told I have a backwards uterus as well and never thought anything of it. This must be the solution to my spotting week before every period and crazy back pain at certain times of the month tat I never even connected. Thank you so much for sharing, now I have an angle to bring to my dr (after sounding like a crazy person when all other test come back just fine...) Thank you so much for posting your experience!!

Dear Alll - Ask your docs about adenomyosis I have been dealing with what you all have described my whole life. It is so frustrating. I was just diagnosed in December. Please don't be wait as long as I did to find out. I'm 44 and it's been a frustrating road. I wanted to have children and for the last 8 years had been trying to get eggs harvested. But they wouldn't until they knew what was causing the irregular bleeding. Now it's too late. Dating and being intimate has been hard for me when always spotting.

bacterial vaginosis (not vaginitis, vaginitis is another medical condition), while common doesn't cause spotting. it does cause fishy smelling discharge and is easily cleared up with antibiotics.

Hi There -
I know this is an older post but I feel like I have a very similar situation and I wanted to see if you found anything out since this post. I was on BC for 8 years and went off of it about two years ago, ever since going off of the pill my cycles were very weird and now I have been spotting for 5-7 days before my period every month for about a year. I recently had some tests done and I showed elevated prolactin in my blood work so they're sending me for an MRI to rule out a pituitary tumor on the brain. I also showed thickened uterine or endometrial lining in my pelvic ultrasound but I still do not know what is the root cause of this spotting. I am wondering if it has something to do with a hormonal imbalance after going off the pill, I know most docs say you turn to normal within a year after stopping BC but I am convinced otherwise. Would love to hear if you or anyone else has found a solution.
