Last month my period was over a week late but when it came it was just as it normally would be. This month my period was due a week ago and hasn't come yet but i have all of the signs that it is about to come. Recently me and my boyfriend have become sexually active, however we have used protection everytime and been very careful. I have my GCSE's coming up so i am quite stressed and also my mum and dad have split up a couple of months ago, so i am now living in two different houses. Should I be worried about being pregnant? Or could these recent changes in my life be causing my late periods?
Hi Always Smile,

Even with using protection there is always a risk for pregnacy. Only time will tell if you are pregnant or not. It sounds as if you are going through a lot of stress right now with the divorce of your parents, your GCSE's and going back and forth from house to house. Those negative emotions you feel can certainly cause your menstrual cycle to be thrown off. The negative effects of stress on the endocrine system can cause your period to be early, late, and depending on the stress levels a period can be missed all together.

Try to make sure you are getting enough rest, exercise, and eating healthy to help with the stress. Divorce is a lot for a person to deal with and I wold recommend seeing a counselor, pastor, or mental health professional to talk with. Best of luck!

Thank you BrendaM, i have heard quite a few people saying that stress can cause your period to be late but i wanted to check that it was true. I shall wait a few more days before I do anything about a pregnacy test. Thank you once again.
