I was able to eat from day 1. I'm not saying it wasn't sore because it was. However, I knew that if I wanted to get better I needed to eat and gain my strength back. No matter how sore it is you need to drink to stay hydrated. I also found that drinking ice water really helped with the pain. (It was painful the first few swallows but after that it was numb and the ice water felt amazing!) the procedure only takes from about 25-45 minutes and they allow you to go once you feel up to it. You don't need to bring anything with you, they supply your gown and booties. I really found this all to be much easier than I expected. Yes, it was painful but not as bad as I imagined or as a lot of these posts lead you to believe! Good luck!

Hello, I am 16 days post op from tonsillectomy. I did everything you were supposed to do, drank lots right away take my meds every 4 hours etc. It has been hell! I ruptured a blood vessel in recovery. Horrible sensation to be drowning in blood but they whipped me back into the OR and cauterized it. I spent two days in hospital. First few days were the easiest. Had another major bleed on day 8 and returned to Hospital. Saw my doc a few days ago and I'm healing very slow. I've had a few good days But still can't eat anything solid but thin pasta. Can barely speak and themear pain is the worst. Still have to take Mophine at this late stage. Doc ordered me off work for a month. I know have a head cold so the fun continues. Don't regret the surgery but imwas warned by my surgeon that adult tonsillectomies are he'll and mine would be even worse.she agrees now that was an understatement. - Tom

so i got my tonsils taken out a week ago from today...i was doing so good the first 3 days, then its like within 5 minutes of the 4th day my life became hell. its been up and down constantly for me this week. ill be good for 5 min then within another 5 min im super sick again. i havent been able to eat anything because i either throw it up or it just wont go down my throat. but my problem now is that i keep having a terrible taste in my mouth...is that normal? i know they say that bad breath is normal because it means that the the area is healing, but literally my water has a bad taste. can someone tell me if that is normal or if i maybe need to go back to the doctor? thanks!

I had my tonsils out when I was 3. I had a sore throat afterwards for a few days and I got to eat icecream 3 meals a day. Just don't eat hard, spicy, and crunchy foods and you'll be fine. Stick to soft stuff like yogurt, applesauce, pudding.

I went under anastesia and of course slept through the whole thing but as soon as I awoke I was sick to my tummy and very nauses. I threw up for two days. The pain afterwards was just horrid. All I can say is make sure to take pain meds no matter hiw sick they make u.
