I had mine out when I was 16, they knocked me out when I got to the operating room, I woke up for a few minutes after and told them it hurt so they gave me morphine and I passed out again. When I woke up later I felt really sick so they gave me an anti nausea drug which didn't help and I slept some more. Ended up puking in the elevator on the way out and felt better. Pretty much slept for 5 days.

Oh wow I'm 13 and I might have to get my tonsils out and I'm terrified. I know I need to do this though so I will. How is the pain. I hate needles going through me. I cry every time. Did you get to stay out of school. If so for how long?

My mother is trying to get me into surgery because I'm fed up with these stupid soar throats that make me feel like I'm on my death bed. Looking ahead, I can almost guarantee Im going to get them out. The idea of surgery scares the heck out of me, and I know what to look forward to now. But this really soothes me. Thanks for the comment

For adults it is much worse. Please believe that fact! My doctor said my tonsils were worse than either of us thought. They were full of pus down into the muscles. She said they were breaking up in her hands as she was trying to remove them...that they were soft like jello! I feel stitches! Eww....anyway I'm allergic to codeine (which happens to be in my favor! Because the pain is so severe i'd probably have gotten hooked on the strong stuff!) so i am toughing this out by taking children's tylenol every 4+ hours and tons of the coldest water filled with ice chips, popsicles, ice cream, smoothies, and a little bit of pureed stir fried veggies. Today is day 4......6 more to go. No more tonsillitis and embarassing funky tonsillith dookie breath

I'm 13, and ever since I was 8, I've been getting tonsillitis. It honestly didn't bother me much. But this past fall, I went to the doctor. 3 doctors looked at my throat and were amazed by how swollen they were. They suggested I get my tonsils took out. I was terrified. My mom went through the same thing. And the story's she told were scary. The thing I'm scared of the most, is the IV they put in your wrist. I have a irrational fear of needles, so of course I didn't want to do it. I just don't know what to do, and I know there's no way of getting around it
