my 19 yr. old son began yesterday with a very sore throat on the left side, as well as his left ear. he only had a 99 degree fever for 20 min. the first day. i gave him some pain reliever, which helped for a little while. today however he has coughed up mucus mixed with a little bit of blood. Looking at the back of his throat, it is swollen and looks infected. There has been no other symptoms but these. Before i take him to the hospital, I would like to find out what this might be.
