My daughter has been diagnosed with diabetes recently. She is only 8 yrs old. We are still in learning stage, what is what. She has to take the insulin. My wife told me to buy one. Well, we are divorced and she is with me on weekends, so she thinks that I should have one at home. What is pump? I ma not sure what is it for. I am not sure what she can or can not eat. Any suggestions are helpful.

The pump is a small computer that she will wear on her hip, or hide someplace else. It has a reservoir that holds insulin. The pump is programmed to give a basal rate and when she presses a button she will give herself an injection of insulin. It is connected to her with an infusion set usually in the abdomen. My mum has had diabetes from the time she got me. She is on insulin 3 times a day. I suppose she got used to it. She used to look after a little girl of 5 in our school at lunch time that had diabetes when she went low or high. I can only advise you to always monitor her sugars giving her what ever she needs depending on her sugar.
