For a couple years after I turned 16 I was put on Seasonique (the 4 periods a year pill) because I had terrible cramping problems. When I turned 17 I lost my virginity for the first time while still on the pill and my boyfriend and I used a condom. We broke up shortly after that but I was still on the pill for about a year and a half. Then I went off of it because I did not have insurance and could not afford that expensive prescription anymore and couldn't afford a visit to my gyno (it didn't occur to my or my mother back then I could just go to Planned Parenthood).

So since I stopped taking the pill my cycles were all confused. Sometimes it would still take me three months to have a period, sometimes two, never on a consistent day. I would never worry about being pregnant because I wasn't "sexually active" at that time. But about a week ago my current boyfriend and I had sex for the first time (I am now 19). This was the first and only time I have had sex while not being on the pill. We used a spermicidal condom and used it 100% effectively.

But I have always been a responsible safety first person. I always told myself I would never have sex without both a condom and being on the pill. But I did it anyway. So now I'm freaking out that I could be pregnant. I have looked for literature online about when to take a pregnancy test and it always says a few days after my first skipped period. But how the heck do I do that when my period is never regular? It could be 2 months from today that I get my period! Plus I have had an increased amount of clear, odorless discharge and I've read this could mean a woman is pregnant.

I'm going to schedule an appointment to go to Planned Parenthood in the next couple weeks to put myself back on birth control (and this time one a regular sort of pill, not 4 period a year). But I'm still worried. When should I take a pregnancy test? How likely is it that I'm truly pregnant if we used the condom effectively? Do you have any other advice? Thank you.
Hi honey! I just wanted to say that the chances of you being pregnant are zero to about 1% so basically you are NOT pregnant! The reason why I can say this is because 1. you used a condom correctly 2. your periods are irregular - thus ovulation being all over the place! So please relax OK? And it is admirable that you will be doing both! This way it is 100% way of not getting pregnant, also have him ejaculate outside your body -into the condom OK? good luck honey! Also you will need to be put on a combination pill to regulate your period!
