Today I experienced irregular vaginal bleeding that was sudden and extreme. I stood up because I felt a little bit of liquid and all of a sudden blood was gushing out of me. I normally have a heavier flow, and certain birthcontrols have given me irregular bleeding and heavier bleeding; but I've never seen anything like this. It looked as if I lost half a litre of blood, and none of it was clotted. Shortly after, the blood stopped flowing and I cleaned up and tried to use a tampon. About ten minutes after that, it happened again and the tampon did not really help at all. It stopped again after that, and I'm now waiting to see if it happens again. Although I know this is a common side affect of birthcontrol, I've had heavy & irregular bleeding from birth control before and this was alot worse than I've ever had before so I'm really worried.
Further info: I am seventeen years old, I'm currently on Seasonale birth control and have been for about 10 months, so I'm on my third 'cycle' of Seasonale. My last period was just over a month ago, and before that I didn't have any irregular bleeding, just a bit of spotting inbetween periods. Before Seasonale I was on Depo Provera for about a year, I stopped taking that because it did not slow down/get rid of my periods; instead I received three week long periods while I was on it. Also, I know that miscarriages are a common cause of bleeding like this; but I have not been sexually active for over 3 months.
If you have any information on causes of this, advice, or if something similar happened to you; I'd really appreciate responses. I am contacting a doctor, but my doctor's office is closed; and seeing as how it's mothers day I don't want to wait four hours in emergency unless it gets more serious. But if I start feeling dizzy/faint or the bleeding doesn't stop then I will go to the hospital.
