Hi all, personally, I am fan of green tea. I have drunk it a lot of times, even recently started to drink it per day, but I didn't experience headache or any side effects. May be it's all in your mind...did anyone get advice from doc on this..?

I've drank copious amounts of green tea for years. I love it. Never had a problem. But I've recently had a horrible constant headache. My solution, "I must need more tea"... WRONG! Got worse. Decided to stop for a few days, headache subsides. Just had a cup out of habit, headache is coming back. This sucks.

What green tea brand have you tried? I just called Celestial Seasonings to complain of the same thing. Somehow I can drink green tea in general, but every time I drink the Green Tea with white tea by this company I get a horrible pain in between my eyes. They say all of their products are GMO-free, but they do not mention it on the box...

I bought the fresh tea leaves from the gardens of China and I am also getting headaches and an upset stomach so I think it has something to do with the actual leaves.

I tried my first K cup of Celestial Seasonings Green Tea and after drinking 4 oz. of a 10 oz. cup I noticed it start to become more bitter. My head started to hurt and suddenly I started feeling very nauseous and unwell. I was sure I was going to throw up but it is starting to pass.

I drink only green tea, about 3 cups a day, and it doesn't effect me this way.

No, the symptoms given throughout this thread are not indicative of a healthy detox response. Especially the many comments saying the heartaches only got worse. I've experienced detoxification through diet many times, and I can be initially unpleasant. However, that subsides and a natural high then takes place and you feel clear and vibrant. Fur myself, green tea has created a persistent dullness of mind, and a skightly nauseous/headachy feeling. It's not good. And it's not like detoxing.

most teas, especially green and black are antioxidants, Meaning they require water to process and therefore dehydrate you. If you arent drinking enough water than a common side effect is headaches. Try drinking regular water before and after drinking tea and it should prevent it. I myself get headaches if i drink to much tea without any water. Let me know if this solution works for you.

Green tea is one of the oldest herbal teas known to man. But it’s important to understand that Green Tea also has some limitations. Some medical conditions may interact with green tea especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • Pregnancy
  • Herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • Allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • Heart disease, stomach problems, including an ulcer; or any emotional or mood conditions

I too started noticing severe headaches when drinking green tea TAO. One other thing I noticed is I would leave the tea bags to steep way longer then 3mins. I wonder if that has to do with my headaches also. For now I am staying away from green tea!

i read a lot about it, studies, books. and i experience the headaches myself.
the answer is: too much caffeine and ecgc in a short time or untrained body.
the ideal amount is reached when brewing green tea for 2 minutes at only 60 °C or shorter at higher temperatures. don't drink a second cup, even if you want to. don't use more tea because of a shorter steep time. tea is not meant to be a drug, but just a leaf to help you live healthy. if you use it as a drug (higher amoun of substance) it will have an intense effect, but also side effects.
that's about it. there are many factors in your body that can make it act different like a full stomach, amount of water in your body, nutrients..
drink 1-2 cups a day, only 2-3g and a steep time of 1:30 to 2 minutes max at 60 °C, only one steep.
see if it gets better.
you don't need more ecgc and it will even destroy your organs if you do, you will realize it with pain, first in the head ,then in the liver and kidneys.
one more thing is the levels of catechines. ecgc and ecg will have different amounts when brewing for a longer time or with higher temperature. you will have signifcant higher levels with 80°C and 3 mimnutes, but it's not healthy for your body.
some people with cancer will profit from higher levels but also need other medication and maybe pain killers, but they will have a miserable life without anyway.
healthy people don't need more ecgc or caffeine and it will have side effects if you use it as a drug.

I also get very bad migraines with aura every time I drink green tea. I thought it was the caffeine since I'm very sensitive to it so I bought decaf and same thing I got a migraine.

Thank you all for sharing. I tried drinking green tea for a year and had awful headaches that were bullet proof. Stopped drinking the green tea and headaches vanished - so I could not have been detoxing for a year! Tried green tea again today and headache was back. No more green tea for me ever.
