Hello,

I’ve been prescribed Norvasc to control my high blood pressure about a year ago and it definitely is effective enough because I’m now more or less in the range of 120/80. The last time I filled my prescription I choose to take generic Amlodipine because it’s supposed to be the same thing and is definitely way cheaper.

The issue I’m having now - and I don’t know if it’s because of the generic med or stress I’ve been under - is that I developed hives like rash on my feet. It doesn’t itch too much, but my ankles seem to be a bit swollen as well, so I hope someone could tell me is this a side effect of Norvasc/ amlodipine?

Hello jacks,

rash is one of the less common side effects of Norvasc, or generic amlodipine. Like you said yourself, there is some chance that stress might have contributed to you developing the rash, but if this is your first time using generic amlodipine, that could have played a role as well.

Generics generally have the same active ingredient and in right concentration, so the problem is probably not the amlodipine itself, but there is a chance that you might be experiencing an allergic reaction to additional substances such as lactose, or pill coating ingredients... etc.
