Hello,

I'm not really sure if this is the right board to post this thread/topic. I apologize for my ignorance.

Here's my concern...

I have a really old aunt. 70yrs old to be exact. I would just like to know what's wrong with her...
She laughs uncontrolably and randomly. To the point that she's in tears.
She swears at our house help.
She randomly repeats words from other people's sentences or sometimes from out of nowhere.
She oviously have parkinson's.
She makes this weird noises at times (but this is not very often)
She wipes/cleans on almost anything in sight.
She takes very very long baths.

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a doctor and do not have the experience to give you the definite answer on what is wrong but if this behavior is something your aunt started doing in the recent years and hasn't been characteristic of her throughout her life then I'd bring her to a doctor to get assessed and treated for this as soon as possible. Anytime there is a change in behavior such as what you are describing, the best thing to do is to make a trip to the doctor for some type of assessment.

I do not think this is Tourette's Syndrome mostly because she is 70 and Tourette's has a childhood onset to my understanding. If this is dementia or some onset of Alzheimer's or a different neurological ailment, then getting medication or treatment and becoming educated as a family is important. The earlier many neurological problems are treated the easier it will be on the family down the road. She may be dealing with a psychological issue entirely. I wouldn't play around with this because what you do with your aunt today may be what saves you a lot of emotional distress down the road tomorrow.

I do not want to come across as alarming. Usually everything is okay and as important --- medicine has come a long way and continues to do so.. The reason I am suggesting a trip to the doctor soon is because if there is something going on neurologically causing these behavior problems then it needs to be addressed sooner vs. later. It will save a lot of heartache to start on that stuff soon. Your aunt is only 70 years old, and in the elderly population she is still a spring chicken... Any type of aging disorder will gradually get worse and considering her age here I would go to a doctor to rule out some neurological problems (or confirm it). You don't want to leave something untreated right now because technically in today's world it is something that will get worse without treatment and you'll be dealing with it for another thirty years potentially.

That's just my two cents. All the best to you guys. And good luck!
