Hi all,
I am a 26 y/o female that smoked for about 8 years. Started with a pack lasting about three days to almost a pack a day. I got back from Iraq in November and I have anxiety issues so thats when the smoking increased. I have been smoke free for 4 days now and my energy is good, but its pollen season here really bad and I saw a Doctor before I quit and he gave me Mucinex for the drainage in my nose and throat and claritine and motrin for the pain. I am still coughing but not a bad as when I first got sick. Since I have quit I am coughing up the yucky stuff but I know it is my body starting to heal all the damage that I did to it by smoking. I drink tons of water and I am eating healthy and I am active since I am in the military. I do find it difficult to swallow here and there, but all of these side effects I am being told will pass. I have a co-worker who has been smoke free for 15 years now. She smoked on and off for almost 30 years and she said it took her a year before the coughing went away. Get a hot air humidifier. She said it helps. Everyones posts here have helped me so much because I am a bit of a hypochondriac as well, and topping that off with the panic attacks never helps, but I have been taking some herbal anxiety relief pills that suprisingly work. Even with all of this c**p going on, I NEVER, ever want to smoke again!!! I would rather deal with a cough for a year then have to deal with having lung cancer or have to carry an oxygen container around like my grandmother did, who died of lung cancer at 67. She smoked for 49 years, and drank heavily every night. Smoking only destroys our body's and shortens our life spans, so good luck to all, and I will keep you in my prayers. We are better than this horriblee addiction and we shall overcome this, one day at a time. God Bless, and Good luck!!!
