I can really relate to this! So many childhood memories are of coughing and coughing. Every time I'd get a cold, it would end in a cough, sometimes lasting for weeks. I remember missing 4 weeks of school at one time. I had my tonsils removed when I was 5 and Drs. thought that might make it better since I had sleep apnea. Its not allergies because it only happens after I have a cold and cold symptoms are almost gone. Then the itchy throat happens... I'd cough until my throat was so sore! It hurt to cough, but the itch doesn't stop. I'd cough until I'd gag and vomit. I'd cough until tears were streaming down my face, but I couldn't stop. Dr. would give me inhalers, I'd use a nebulizer 24 / 7, nothing helped! A few times I ended up in the ER simply because I couldn't stop coughing. They'd take chest x-rays... nothing! Usually I'd have to take steriods (prednisone) and a z-pack before it got better. The only thing that triggers it for me is getting a cold. My Dr. called it a cough variant asthma, but I'd never get a tight throat. I can breathe fine, but every breath (especially a deep breath) tickles so bad I have to cough. Eating ice and drinking cold water helps soothe the itch for a little while, but it always returns. Being in a warm room makes it worse. Its better since I'm older but it still happens when I get a cold. My dad and brother have the same problem. Its so bad that I don't know if I want to have kids because I'm afraid they'd have to go through what I did.
