I have had the mirena for 3 and 1/2 years now. my BV started a year ago, with one treatment, it went away and then 6 months later it came back and now has never gone away. I have had it for 4 months, I have been on Flagyl 3 times, Tinadazole and now they have me on the Metro gel for 6 months. The doctor is saying the same thing, "it's not the IUD". which is bull c**p. I am having it taken out. My friend had the mirena, which she had the fishy odor also and when she had it taken out, the smell went away. She and I both also have vaginal bleeding with sex since being on the mirena. thanks for your post. now I don't feel like Im the only one with this

Wow!!! I've had this IUD for about 6 months and it's been hell! After reading all these responses I'm pretty sure I have BV and I have to get rid of this thing. I'm a mother of four and recently married and my husband and I would prefer not to have any more children right now, what other Birth Control's would you ladies suggest?

This helped me so much. I don't have the mirena I have skyla which is the "teen" version of miren. Just for people that haven't had kids. I'm 19 and I got my iud put in 5/07/14. I was told the cramps would go away after a few hours, wrong, they lasted over a month. I've had bv more times than I can count but my GYN says it's not from my iud. I've never had a yeast infection until I got my iud and again I've had so many I can't count. My period has officiously stopped and I haven't had one for almost four months now (which I feel isn't normal) I had PID (pelvic Inflammatory disease) an inflamed tube and cramping that could make a grown man cry. I'm up to 4 extra strength midols and can still feel them. But my GYN says besides my bv and yeast infections im perfectly healthy and all my ultra sounds look good. I feel disgusting and nothing I seem to do helps. I think it's time to get this bad boy removed.

I had my first mirena placed back in 2009. All the way until my 4th year this was the best thing! I received mirena as duel purposes. First to control my out of control periods I've battled since the age of nine and as a contraceptive as the second reason. Once I approached the last year of it's lively hood I began having several problems. I was treated with BV about 6 times. After every treatment I then experienced a yeast infection. At the end of the five years me and my gyn decided it was actually best to replace it instead of finding new ways to control my out of control period. Not to mention the mirena crash. My new one was placed in Aug just handful of months ago. The placement was 10x the pain and I was in bed for 2 days. I have ongoing cramps and the normal regular yeast infections and BV. Just wish there was other option as I've tried them all.

We need to demand better options. Do you know how many products are available in other countries that the  Republicans refuse to allow us to have? It's ridiculous. Why do women have to even ask, much less demand access to health care?

Ladies, I had the same problem with rotating Bv infections and yeast infections. I had been seeing by on-gyn but one day I decided to see my primary physician. She put me on a BORIC ACID treatment and I've been infection free for 3 months. I couldn't go 2 weeks without an infection so I'm ecstatic!! The BORIC ACID is a compounded capsule that's inserted vaginally for 14 days, then the first of the following 2 months for 7 days. Ask your Dr. for BORIC ACID rx!!!!

I've had Mirena since having a still birth in October of 2014. Ever since, my period is, on average, 20 days long!!!! I told my doctor and they seem to think its normal. When the iud was placed, I was assured that my periods would regulate and that my flow would be lighter. LIES!!! Now, I have this everlasting odor and super odorous discharge. For example, I try to walk around the house without underwear just to air out the area, today I stood up and realized that fluid ran down my leg, I thought it was urine, when I wiped it, it was very smelly and redish.. I dont know why that is. I've been wearing pads and panty liners everyday since the placement of Mirena. I am sick of it and taking it out the first chance I get. I've never used birth control in my life. I'm am 32 and married for 10 years. I'm opting OUT of birth control again.

I found this website while searching for answers. I am a post menopausal woman who had the mirena inserted 5 years ago. Now at the 5 year mark, my cervix has already closed and I instantly got a really bad infection! Since I go to the V.A. they don't understand what to do except give me antibiotics! Terrible! I am going to a Physician outside the system and getting this thing taken out, and then I'm going to sue Bayer.

I got the Mirena July 2014 6 weeks after the birth of my baby.  I bled for 1 1/2 months on top of 6 weeks post baby.  Few months later my vagina felt really sour  and had lots of discharge and had grayish color. It went away than I kept spotting.  Now I have constant BV, yeast and spotting. I want the IUD removed.  I am so sick of it. I keep getting tested for STD's just in case. But no STD's I want my vagina to be normal.  I dont want to get pregnant again though.   Frusterating since I can't take any other birth control.  I have tried them all.

I had the mirena for over a year. I've been so ill for the last week with sweats, chills etc. Finally went 2 hospital to try and get to the bottom of it. Mirena had to come out turns out I have PID/ infection in the uterus. Find it hard to believe that the mirena has not caused this as the gynecologist advised me to wait s few weeks and get another one put in. Never again!! I have never been so ill in all my life. Waking up in the morning saturated wet from sweat. Ps. I sleep in air conditioning..

Did you have better results when the Mirena was removed? Did it indeed take away BV? I'm having the same issues and have had Mirena for a while now.

An easier solution that I FINALLY discovered... after years of battling this and trying EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN...  Douche with apple cider vinegar.  MUST be apple cider vinegar.  Do not dilute it.  If you choose to dilute it you HAVE to use distilled water (chlorine in tap water).  Do this at night before bed.  Immediatley insert a vitamin C tablet inside your vagina as far up as you can reach.  NOT chewable.  Has to be a tablet or capsule.  wear a pad to bed because as it disolves it will leak out.  This neutralizes your pH preventing bacteria from living.  The odor will be gone immediatley.  If your infection is bad, you may have to repeat this 2-3 days but if caught early enough, one dose will do the trick.  I have battled this for YEARS and am happy to share with you what FINALLY is working!!!  In addition to this, you can soak in a bath with vinegar added...  Congrats to finally learning a cure!  I share deeply in your frustration!

The Vitamin C HAS worked for me to get rid of smell and discharge.  I now take a probiotic(acidopholus, folic acid and apple cider vinegar pills).  I do put apple cider vinegar in my bath water... THIS works.. it seems over the time of your period it gets worse... I have ONLY had to use the Vitamin C 1X.. but would do it again if I felt it was bad.  I was SO FRUSTRATED and wanted to get this Mirena OUT.. but NOW it is under control.
