So, I've got a swollen lymphnode under my left arm. I've had it for a month or so now. At first, I thought it might've been caused by my upcoming period, but it was still there the week after my period ended. I'm not sick.
Then I thought maybe it was caused because I haven't been geting enough sleep lately. This last week was Finals week at my college. So I've been stressing about Finals for the past month or so, and more so as they got closer. I also have a hard time shutting my brain off at night, so I stay up late (past 1am) even when I keep my eyes shut.
My family has a bit of a history with cancer: One of my cousins down south died of cancer, my grandma's brother's wife is dying of cancer, my grandma has a small skin cancer growth on her nose. I haven't told my grandma, whose been a nurse for 50 yrs about it yet because I don't want her to worry.
What should I do? Is it possible that, since I have no more classes, it will go away after I've rested well for a week? Do I tell/ask Grandma about it?

Hello, CamoGirl.
I don't think that lymph node is related to the fact that you're tired from finals, but everything is possible, although it's unlikely.
Because of cancer history in your family it is the best that you check that lymph node at the doctor. Maybe it's nothing, but the best is to be sure.
You can talk to your grandmother, but if you want to spare her from worrying, go straight into the hospital.
I hope it's nothing and that you will soon be concerned only for an exam results. ;-)
Cheers!

As to weather you tell your grandma is totally up to you and I understand about not wanting to worry her bit.
I do hope it turns out to be nothing serious and keep us informed how you get on :-)

Hiding things will give you ulcers and possibly kill you but sharing with someone who can help you or direct you to good help is a much better alternative. It may worry your grandma but she will feel much better trying to help, seeing that you have trusted her. Being useful and possibly saving your life and at the low end strengthening a special bond between you and your grandma, my bet is on asking for help. In this world all things that are good do not happen by keeping them to yourself, they happen by sharing them with another human being so you can work together. Good luck

Turns out it was/is a swollen sweat gland. Doctor said it might flare up sometimes, but nothing to be concerned about.

Hi,
Yeah, it is definitely a relief. I am glad for you. I also had swollen lymph nodes , and still have; not just under my left arm.
I have swollen lymph nodes under my armpits, groin area, my jaw and neck. On both sides. I was scared at first, especially because i have a history of Melanoma. Doctors said they flared up because of some infection i had in the past, possibly during childhood. Some kids can go through an infection without even realizing that they are sick. Now, i just live with it, it does not bother me nor it's serious. Anyhow. I just wanted to share my story.
Be well,
K
