ok, so i am on day three after the surgery as well. i am 20 years old, and i had both the tonsils and adenoids removed. right after the surgery i woke up to them pumping some drugs into my iv, and they gave me liquid rx.... i cat remember the name exactly right now, to be honest i just woke up and cant get up right now. but when i got home from the surgery i could talk sort of though i tried to stay away from speaking too much. well since about 8 pm the first night i haven't been able to speak without searing pain. i cant swallow my own saliva let alone water without pain.
now i know its going to hurt, but if you get short noodles and cook them, then melt butter on them, then let them cool down, warm up a small amount of chicken broth. add the chicken broth to the noodles, not too much, you don't want drown it, i promise this will be easy to swallow and fill you up more then ice cream, and popsicles, the butter helps you swallow the noodles, and the broth gives it flavor. so far this is the only really thing i can eat, but today i'm going try mashed potatoes.

Lol so at two in the morning I cannot sleep drink eat poop smile laugh cough pretty much everything I love doing when I want to. I am writing out there on a blog I don't know they name of to someone that might stumble across this while either considering getting both their tonsils and adenoids removed such as I did or have had the surgery and in some painstaking state of mind thought the ol' world wide web might have a bit of information that at least might make you feel some comfort as to sharing something of the same pain with a complete stranger. Day six; this whole experience has been quite interesting to say the least. I had always had inflamed tonsils and adenoids that acted as giant baseball mitts collecting any germ that passed through any airway via mouth and nose. They said my snoring would be decreased as well....to see the affects of my father's chronic sleeping railroading sound effect be the source of many fights with my mother, at 20 years old and male I am glad I no longer have these things in my mouth. Today is Wednesday, my tonsadenoids were relieved of their position last Friday. The process is slow. Very slow. For me at least. Note: the younger you are the faster your body heals. The older you are....you are in my prayers tonight. After the tonsils are surgically taken out a white Flem grows over the wounded area. This area wreaks. the most horrible small that can be conjured by man has currently made home to the back of my mouth. The smell best be described as garbage waste, cat poop, a yard compost pile and those mothballs in the back of your grandmas closet. Brushing your teeth and tongue must be treated delicately. You cannot rid your self of this horrific smell but needless be hygienic about the situation- though this in and of it self seems to be an oxymoron. Yesterday morning day five was the worst....so far. This next portion is to not scare anyone this is my experience probably worse case scenario (for every one else I pray to God that it is) The clot that had formed on the right tonsill had broken free in the middle of the night and though on this particular night my mouth was once again in sever pain, I was strangely woken to a painless mouth almost warm and fuzzy....until I opened my mouth and the warmness was that of my own blood and the fuzziness being that my head was going now numb. I was rushed to the Emergency room and on the way there the only way for me to cope with this extreme loss of blood and to somehow feel as if I was conquering this unconquerable situation was to drink water, lots I think I drank about 60 oz of water the way there. Seriously. I got there and my body had become cold and was shaking uncontrollably the blood that lay rest in my stomach due to its natural acidity had started to make me feel quite sick. I was checked in got into a room asked where the garbage can was and there it want. The most disgusting thing I had ever done. Without getting too graphic this looked like a scene form a horror movie. After doing throwing up my body had lost a liter and a half of blood. I was hooked up with an IV, morphine, and blood test were being performed to see just how much blood my body had lost. I felt the anesthesia kick in, my heart rate slowed, my growns became silenced and for a minute throughout this whole tosiloidectomy I had no pain, I was comforted by my operation nighty and the warm blankets they layed over me. My mouth clotted again this doctor prescribed me hydrocodone a liquid serum from heaven and I got to keep the nighty. So its back to the dungeon again and here I sit awaiting my illness to relieve, Through this I hope no one was frightened away from the surgery im sure it was my fault, I should have been drinking a lot more fluid. Fluids, Fluids, and more Fluids. If this struck home with anyone and would like to talk I will leave my email. Im not a stalker but I wish i would have had someone to talk to through all of this. Then again Im not all the way through it yet. lol

I'm 38 and had my tonsils out 4 weeks ago. It was such a relief and i feel so totally different, i had tonsilitus every 2 weeks for 2 years and i can not believe how different i feel!
First 4 days were a bit painful. Day 5 - 9 was quite horrible, but i forced myself to eat hard foods, which the nurse advised me to do which is why i do not think it was sooo bad for me!!
Its by no means as painful as childbirth (i have two kids, ones only 2 so i still remember).
I've also had my appendix out (it burst) and it wasn't by any stretch as bad as that.
I went back to work after 3 weeks and that was the hardest bit, i loved my time off and although uncomfortable, feel great now!! Get it done and get your life back.

okay im 17years old and just got my tonsils taken out on Monday, and Im on day 3. I thought it would be a great idea getting them out since i had sore throats ALL the time. But i would seriously rather kill myself than be in this pain. I cant swallow anything i have to spit my saliva into a cup because i cant even swallow that. Im starving but I cant eat anything because it hurts to bad to swallow. Im on Percocent and liquid Vicodin and they are not doing anything. I am taking 2 percocets withc are suppose to take the pain away but it doesnt do a thing. Also, they have me on all these nasty liquid meds that I cant even swallow because i choke on them. Everyrtime i stand up im nautious from all the freaking medicince ( that does nothing). Also, its extremely hard to breathe since my uvula is swollen HUGE. This is terrible. Im dying. If I had to do this over again i would definatly NOT have had them taken out.

How long ago was your surgery? It looks like you posted this a week ago and it hopefully is different for you now. Can you tell me how you're doing now? Hopefully you're feeling better and able to drink and eat somewhat normally. Let me know okay?

I had my tonsils removed on the 15th as well as a bi lateral turbinate reduction in my nose. This has seriously been the worst pain I've EVER experienced in my life. I've had 3 kids, kidney stones and a breast reduction and this is by far the worse. Mine has been worse because I can't breathe though my nose because of that procedure because It is packed w/ gauze held by a sling that i have to change. I would NEVER reccomend getting a double procedure done now that I've had it. Because of this I have to breathe through my mouth and it is very hard to keep my mouth from being dry and it makes my throat hurt worse. My surgery was on a Tuesday and Friday was actually a pretty good day. Must have been the calm before the storm. Saturday it got really bad. I've been on Liquid Vicodine and Percocet and I can barely last 3 hours in between doses. By yesterday I couldn't hardly even drink water the pain was so bad... radiating into my ears as well. I have already lost like 10lbs.
This morning at 3am I woke up choking on blood. I proceeded to spit it out into a cup... probably a good 8 oz. It just kept Gushing. I gargled ice water and it slowed but didn't seem to stop. It seemed as though the left scab came off. I went to the ER and they said it had pretty much stopped. They said I was dehydrated so they hooked me up to an IV and gave me fluids and some different pain meds to try and help the pain and sent me home with orders to contact my ENT when they opened at 9.
My ENT told me that It was completely NORMAL to have that much blood when a scab falls off! What the heck! That as long as I can stop the bleeding by gargling w/ ice water etc w/in 45 minutes and its not still gushing... that its okay... So it could potentially happen again with the other side.
I've finally been able to eat some chicken broth but its the only thing Ive eaten in a week now besides Jello. I'm so hungry. I just want real food again! I'm so ready to be over this!!! I keep trying to remind myself of how great it is going to be afterwards but sometimes I'm wondering if its really worth it!!!

im 16 years old... and i had my tonsils and adenoids taken out last thursday. it is now tuesday.. day 6. every day seems to be a lot more painful than the day before and i havent stopped crying. i cant swallow my own spit without knives of pain down my entire throat. on day 1, since i was still numb from the anesthestia, i was able to eat ice cream and scrambled eggs. But now, the freezing cold ice cream only makes me entire mouth pound with pain. i was on a liquid perk, but that made me extremely nauseous so they switched me to a tylenol with codine which doesnt even help the pain that much. the mornings are deffinately the worst. its extremely difficult to talk and i avoid it as much as possible. i am starvinnnggg and i thought i would be back in school by today but no way. everyone keeps telling me today's the hardest day but tomorrow never gets better. :-( i wish i never got this done but then again i was suffering from extreme tonsil infections ever since i had mono last year.. good luck to everybody this reeeaalyy sucks

I got my toncils out yesterday, they had me on morphine so it wasn't that bad your just very tired. I got home and slept, later the pain came to the point where i did'nt want to swallow and it hurt to bad. I kept tossing and turning in the night and would let my saliva go into a tissue so i would'nt have to swallow. Today was the second day and this morning was the worst. Before deciding to get my tonicls out I have had strep many times as a child then mono and toncilitis and then for about a month straight I was sick with a sore throat the whole month. Right now is probaly the worst pain I have every felt in my life, the doctors say the third day is the worst and its about that pain for about two to three days after that then the pain will decrese.
