Well I am 65 and had mine out on Friday (15th May). Had to be at the hospital at 11am. Sat there all day with nothing to eat or drink and no-one came near me until late in the day. I was taken into theatre at 6.30pm! We live quite a way from the hospital so my 74 year old partner waited for me. I had been told I would be out by about 5pm! The op went well and I did not feel too bad at all. I asked to go home, but they would not allow it. I ended up leaving the hospital at 11pm! It was not because of my age as the 26 year old in the bed next to me had hers out first and she left after me. My poor partner was very cold waiting all this out! Anyway, the rest of the night and the next day were ok. I must say I have not had much pain, but an awful feeling in the throat. I cannot even get water down, so I am having trouble there. My doc only gave me Panadol Forte, nothing else. Had a bad night last night & today I am coughing and sound like I have whooping cough. I too, hope it is all worth it.

You can try pudding, soups (not tomato though because its acidic) and cream of wheat (that was all i ate for the first 5 days...)

Hey, im 18 and i got mine out 5 days ago and i 100% agree that the mornings are the worst! Im leaving for college on the 20th so i was hoping by then i would be a little better but i am having concerns about that! I too have little black spots in my tonsils which conserns me and i sort of want to ask a proffessional today! If any of you know a reason for the black dots please tell me i would love to know becasue they look very creapy!! Does anyone know about when people start feeling better with this sergury cause all i have been hearing are people still suffering from the pain! Thank you! and any good funny movie options... im running low on ideas to do :) i recomend movie nights with friends! friends are so supportive and it is so much fun and you forget about most of the pain!!

Thank You!

Hi guys! I'm 19 i just got my tonsils out earlier today its september 21st. When i woke up from the anesthesia I wasn't in much pain i kept asking for water but they told me i could choke on it and gave me ice. i was sooo tired i just wanted to cry and go to sleep. im home now all ive had it water  , fudge pops, and jello. the jello is kinda hard to swallow. i was talking fine after my surgery at the hospital and now i regret it cuz i think it did damage i cant even talk now and hurts more to whisper (nurse said thats normal). I yelled twice today at my dog to get off me and i dont knnow if that did damage. my throat just feels so dry and is hard to swallow. when i look at my throat it looks like the right side has came seperated from  my throat and is white and more swollen then the left. i also have mucus and i dont know what to do cause i cant hack it up and i cant take a huge swallow to get rid of it. maybe someone else is going through this too?? All and all it was not that bad of a procedure. I imagined it being 10Xs worse. if you have tonsilitis i would strongly recomend getting this. yeah, it may hurt for a week or so but it's totally worth not having tonsil stones every 2 damn days and picking them out with a q tip and tooth pick. oh, and the bad breath! what a relief!! The pains really not that bad the older you are the longer you take to heal and more it hurts. so if your still in your teens, hurry up and get it done!

I had just gotten my tonsils out on the 26 so I am on day 4. I went to the emergency room last night I am 19 years old and wishing I would die at the moment. I have never been in so much pain in by life my pain meds don't make any difference I can't sleep unless I'm sitting straight up and even then I don't sleep for more then a half hour. The doctors in the emergency room told me that people recover faster from bigger procedures. I would never do it again. I haven't eaten since my surgery can't swallow. So be warned this is horrible. I got dehydrated in 2. Days and there wasn't anything I could do about it. Plus my ears are ready to explode. It's like a double ear infection. I hope others don't have the same experience as I did.

Hang in there Brianamae, I know it probably doesn't feel like it'll ever stop hurting, but it will get better! I'm on day 13 since mine came out , and it's been non stop pain, especially on days 4-8. A beautiful thing happened on day 12, the pain started giving me "breathers". It still hurt just as intensely as before, but there would be long stretches when it would stop hurting so I could catch my breath! I've been able to cut down on the pain pills as a result, and I'm eating more substantial foods too! Keep drinking lots of water and you'll get through this!
