Hey, I'm in the exact same boat as you are. I'm 18, and this is day 6 for me. I suffered my whole life from over-sized tonsils, and because of my poor health they decided it best to keep them in. After having step throat twice every year, this year I didn't recover from it. Because my tonsils wouldn't go down, they were taken out along with my adenoids. It's amazing because it's easier to swallow now than it was before the surgery (although agonizingly painful). They prescribed me a liquid pain reliever and liquid amoxicillin to control the infections that come along with the healing. I must say, I am infection free and so glad that I got the procedure done. Did you take any amoxcicillan or anything along that line? Also, when the pain in my throat becomes unbearable I lie down with a wonderful pillow my grammy bought me. It's the cloud pillow (As seen on tv) haha and the support alleviates the weight my head puts on my throat. You should try it. The ear ache is caused by the fact that your throat and ears are connected by the same nerve, so it will also trigger the ear aches.

I am on day 2 and i feel like i am going to DIE!!! it hurts like c**p! but hopefully i will get better soon. I haven't coughed up or threw up any blood- of which doing so is pretty rare. But i have just loaded up on slurpees from 7eleven and Rainbow Floats from Pace's. I have also eaten some warm chicken noodle soup, just make sure you chew up the noodles very well or they will get stuck in the back of your throat. My uvula has swelled to double the size of my thumb, so i have to sit upright when i sleep or it clogs my airway.

If it makes you feel better I was in NO pain when I woke up from surgery and I was really happy. It hurt worse that night & the next day. It'll be worth it. Good luck!

Honestly its not that bad; i think alot of people just need to have a bit more pain tollerance. Anyone out there that isnt a softie will be able to handle this with no worries, so dont get scared out of it by everyone else, if you need it done GET IT DONE, and just be positive, if you are negative and weak you will suffer.
I wouldnt wish it upon anyone, but honestly it is super bearable!
I am 24 years old and got mine out 5 days ago:
Day one; after surgery i woke up and was taken to my room. Pain was sort of like the aching of tonsilitis (which every one of you should be able to handle seeing as you dont get removal without re-occurance of tonsilitis) but alot more uncomfortable seeing as there were stitches running across the whole top of mouth (also got pallet scraped/removed).
All-in-all i was stoked, even though the affects of anaesthetic would still be in action at that time i was expecting alot more pain due to the huge amount of people out there saying it was unbearable etc. I drank a few pitchers of water that night in hospital and they gave me a couple panadols that night.
The next morning i woke up feeling 200% better than i normally would on a normal day (even though anaesthetic and pain killers had worn off completely) obviously the pain was still there, but health-wise i felt great and the pain was only slightly worse than the night before. I was given 2 more panadol and my breakfast of: 2 peices of toast, 2 poached eggs, orange juice, green tea and a bowl of rice bubbles. They all hurt the same amount to eat (which wasnt too bad) in fact i foun d bigger mouthfuls to be less uncomfortable.
I left hospital at 10am and went home with panadol & oxy (for pain) and amoxycillin (combat infection). I have tried the oxy before bed the next two nights; it doesnt seem to make any difference with the pain, so i just take 2 panadols, twice a day and it is more than bearable. Others may find it useful, i have heard it helps others well in terms of pain killing and helping sleep; both of which i dont have any problems with anyway.
Day 4 was when pain started in my ears, i consider this pain worse than the actual pain in my mouth/throat and due to my tollerance of pain killers i cant seem to combat that, but again, keep positive and active (not too active, you need your rest) and it is nothing to worry about, it is alot worse in the mornings and seems to fade as you get up and go about your day; go outside and sit in the sun or something vitamin D helps that mood.
Day 5 the ear pain was not as bad this morning but still pretty sucky; decided to have a productive day; report my progress with the tonsilictomy and work on some business projects of mine.
I have high hopes about the next week; my white scabby mouth seems to be at its scabby-peak so i can only assume the healing phase is next which means it will only get better!
Oviously i have sime time to go, but Overall a very positive surgery and if you have had it suggested to you by a doc/specialist to help with stopping tonsilitis or glandular fever or sleeping problems etc, i would suggest preparing yourself with a range of foods and taking 10 days for any normal human, 2 weeks for someone who might be of the more negative-mind. Dont be afraid to try larger foods, i promise it wont actually hurt more unless it is hard and sharp (like crisp chips; not recommended as may also cause bleeding)

It hurts until I take my liquid hydrocodone. Swallowing anything is the biggest pain but I can bear it.
