Day 29 post op Vasectomy: My right nut is fine, my left nut is sensitive, I've got a mass about a third the size of a nut it seems to me, veins I've been told. I would NOT recommend a vasectomy to anyone, though MOST people are fine with it, having no ill side effects after a week or two. "If it aint broke, dont fix it!" I will live by this quote for the rest of my life, for both health & materialistic items. I have learned my lesson. I ran everyother day, a few steps into a jog gives a "pulling" sensation. How will I keep up with my daughter, I have very little sex drive now (used to have a HUGE sex drive). It could be worse, but a sore nut is a sore nut. I believe this will definately affect my quality of life & what I want to do in life, though it is 4 weeks after the vasectomy, not 4 years??????????

I am just over 2 weeks post op.  I WISH I would have heard of these issues before I went in.  My left side(although I felt the needle and some pulling on this side) went smooth and never had to ice or pain or discomfort.  My right nutt on the other hand- wow how could it be so different.  I have what feels like a mass above my right testicle and it has only increase in PAIN after my first three ejaculations.  I called the doctor and they just asked if I have had a fever and I have not.  The pain now has gone into my pubic area and into my lower abdomin.  I have tried ice and it provide minor relief and pain killers are doing nothing.  I am calling my doc tomorrow to have an office visit.  I thought this was suppose to be so easy and rarely any complications.  Is there ever any relief for the pain?

I know it has been a while since your post but I thought I would reply anyway. I had my vasectomy 9 years ago. My procedure went off without a hitch. I began having problems 2 years ago with cysts forming and disolving and causing swelling and pain. I then got an epididimis head cyst that did not go away. I had to have an emergency procedure to have it removed. It was supposed to be an in and out procedure. I ended up having bilat epididomectomy and 2 days later I had a large pineapple sized hematoma on my left testicle. It was so large that I could barely walk. I ended up in the hospital with a blood clot in my leg and a grape fruit in my pants. I followed all of their instructions. Wearing the support underwear, but no matter what I did, it blead. I am still recovering. This happened in December. I have to have the left testicle removed next month because it is dead. You really need to stay on top of the doctors. My situation was a bit extreme. My medical situation prevented them from treating me as they could have and by the time that I came off of the coumadin it was to late to save the testicle. When it comes to that region, I wont let them wait again. I went through 4 urologist before I found someone who told me that I was not just feeling myself up. I had a doctor grab my testicles and tell me that there was nothing there but the two testicles. One week later, I am seeing another Doctor who is telling me I need to have emergency Surgery. Like I say, People really should not take your testicles lightly. I will say this though, Pick A good Doctor. The doctor that did my vasectomy was fantastic in and out in an hour, back to work with no pain in 2 days. This time, He was OK, but he won't be doing this next surgery.

I had a vasectomy done one week ago and I am in so much pain. I thought it was supposed to be 2 days and you can go back to work. I went to the ER two days after because my balls were the size of softballs. I had to take the week off of work cause I am on my feet all day. I screwed myself by doing heavy lifting very next day after my surgery and walking around alot. I hope the the swelling goes down

I had mine done about two months ago and I am still in pain - My right nut is sore and it hurts when anything touches it. Behind the ball, there is a small hard lump. When I touch it, the pain sticks around for at least 30 minutes. I do have sex with my wife 'often' and there is no pain during the act itself, but afterwards it feels very uncomfortable.
Another really annoying thing is that I have to adjust myself all day long; bending over is a pain, because my sack is in the way - in fact, about three weeks ago I was raking the lawn and because I have to bend over in a certain way to protect my balls, I hurt my back!

I have never been injured for any length of time, I am healthy and in good shape. But my right nut is sore every day, all day. It is seriously affecting my quality of life.

One mistake I made was underestimating this procedure. I went to a walk-in clinic and booked the 'discount' vasectomy instead of going to the hospital and getting it done there...

Anyway, my point to all you guys out there: IT IS YOUR SACK - don't let your wife or the doctors tell you it is a minor procedure. It is major surgery! I haven't even gone into the procedure itself yet... it was the worst thing I have ever done in my whole life. I broke out into a cold sweat and apparently turned white like a ghost when the doctor started pulling on my tubes.
It is a very unnatural thing to do. I recommend condoms or just pull out in time.

Hope this is helpful to anyone out there.

3 & a half months later, I get a little throbbing pain from time to time where the "knot" is as if its trying to get back up in side my on my right side (the side that healed quickest). The bunje cord/ pulling sensation on my nuts have more or less gone away. Sometimes a leap down from a height (2 or 3 feet will make me gasp, sometimes, but I just went for my first real run since the snip & went all out, running as fast as I could & had NO problem. I just got the all clear. All in all, I'm happy with the desicsion, but not the road taken to get to this point. Then again, I still would not do it again. For those of you taking even longer to heal, I know some guys who have this done, as I'm sure we all do, one guy was at the bar the same day & doing yard work the next, while the other told me it was about 6 months before he did not feel anypain/sensation at all. As is right now, the throbbing dull pain from time to time is better than a headache in the middle of the night due to a crying baby, so I can more than live with it, however, so I've read, some have continual pain every day............. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.....something to think of but we all have to make our own choices, being properly informed makes living with the end result easier though.

FYI: About 4 months later now, got an all clear (checked twice) , sex without a condom is great, but the random (no apparent cause) throbbing dull pain between my right nut & kidney is bothersome. It does not stop me from doing anything, but nonetheless is something I NEVER had to deal with pre-snip. Oh well, at least its not the "nut pulling" sensation.

I had a vasectomy 8 years ago and still have problems with my right testicle I get a crippling pain in my ball that can only be explained as vice like, or similar to being kicked there but for a long time. The pain travels through into my body. I thought originally that I had a hernia, but it became apparent that I had never had that pain before the vasectomy. Has anyone else experienced this problem.

i had mine about 4.5 days ago. no scalpel, 10 mins, spray anesthetic, only quick, tiny moments of pain and the worst part was the anxiety of having that area disturbed. immediately after i felt no pain at all, even after doing some light labor and half an hour of walking each day after. this morning, i masturbated, as i found some sites saying it was ok, though my doctor said to wait 7 days. starting to regret that, since i just found a lump above each testicle. they're probably half an inch wide and feel...like a grape, i suppose: not hard but lightly squeezing shows resistance. still no pain or discoloration as i've seen in other responses.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** , i've found out that it's probably escaped sperm, which is not harmful. i'll also mention that the ejaculate came out normal. normal amount and color. sex-drive is the same. o. but. i have gained weight. i'm very skinny and have been trying for a couple of years to gain weight. i hover between 115 and 130. ordinarily if i skip a meal, i'll lose one to three pounds by the next day. since the procedure, i've gained 3 pounds, despite having skipped a meal yesterday. i weigh 133. i've never weighed 133. kind of happy, but it must all be fat, since that light labor i mentioned earlier is the same as usual. plus, the workouts i've been doing 5 times a week for the past few months keeping me between 125 and 130 have been skipped. i'm gonna start lifting tiny weights until the 7 days are up. i'm also calling my doctor tomorrow to ask about the lumps. i'll post again if they aren't dismissible sperm deposits.

for the guest post on 07-03-11, my "lumps" above each testicle went away after about 3 months, still have kind of random aching pain, but since its not the "getting your nut pulled" sensation & more of a cramp/soreness pain I can deal with that. The bothersome aching is better than a headache due to a baby crying!

well i had mine done like 5 months ago...got it all the infection the grapefruit sized nuts...after like 2 weeks it all pretty much went away...a month later i went back with crazy pain in my nuts...like someone was kicking them...could barely walk, had a fever, tossing and turning all night...went to the ER and they said go see the original doc who did the surgery...so i did...when i went there he felt my sack and said ahhh your alright just some after effects...and i said but doc theres something behind my nut left one...like a little ball that hurts when i touch it...he checks again and says oh yeah you have some build up there thats creating an infection let me give you some antibiotics...which took it away in a week...it has since returned once more and i went to the urgent care and just asked for the antibiotics which worked again...my doc then said come back in a week to see if we have to go back in if the problem dont go away...to be continued... ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

I myself am thinking "why the hell could I not have found this forum thread before having this done" !!
The procedure itself was a little uncomfortable , felt alot more tugging / pulling on the second side (left) than the right.
I left the doctor's and took  some painkillers when I got home , but ever since the initial local anaesthetic has worn off , I have had pain on both sides , at best like toothache , and at worst blinding .
I have 2 noticeable lumps in my tubes over my testicles , about the size of a large peanut.
These are extremely tender to touch and don't feel normal ( They definately were not there before)
I had to make an emergency appointment on day 6 post-op as the pain was not easing , and the consultant examined me and stated I was suffering from a condition called "sperm granuloma" a build up or leakage at the site of incision on my tubes.
He said it should clear up after a week's course of strong antibiotics and painkillers.
After having a look around the net , it appears this complication should be at worst slightly uncomfortable , however mine is really uncomfortable and nothing like I was expecting , or led to believe .
I'm now day 8 post-op with no improvement ( 2 days into antibiotics course so hopefully they should kick in soon)
So to echo what other's have stated , I really would not have had this done if I'd known the pain I was going to have to go through , and I would have given the idea alot more thought if I'd been made more aware of the consequences / complications arising from this procedure.
Good luck to you all .

Had the procedure on Friday.  Fairly simple, not too much pain, just bruising and a little swelling.  By the time Wednesday rolled around I thought I'd be %100 better, but was still feeling discomfort, thinking it was being caused by the sutures pinching my sacks.  Checked down there and noticed hard lumps near both incisions.  The right one about the same size as the left, but much more painful.  Now it's Thursday and I'm still in a lot of discomfort.  Still, a little swelling, not as much as some people have mentioned, but it's noticeable.  The right side is the problem area.  I found this forum and am now very concerned that it's going to get worse before it gets better.  Already took a week off from a very physical job and don't want to take any more time off than necessary.  I have my follow up appointment on Tuesday, hopefully the problem is solved by the time I have to go to work on Monday, but I'm not confidant in that.  :(

It's been almost a year now & still have discomfort all day sometimes, slight but noticable, however, not the feeling you get when you drive over a short hill very fast. It's more of a dull pain & every once in a while extremely painful for a very short time when it really counts. The urologist does not care, showed no sympathy, which I was not looking for, but I was looking for an explaination such as him simply stating either you've got to deal with it or some people end up worse kind of thing. It appears that he thinks it's in my head. Going seven months after the initial surgury he gave me a prescription for antibiotics for an infection that did not go away he said. Don't know how one can have a bacterial infection of the sac for 7 months..... oh yeah  you don't. I've lost all faith in this as****e. If after several weeks later you're not up to par, you may just have to "deal with it."........UNFORTUNATELY. My case is ok now for the most part, but I am NOT like I was BEFORE the snip & a year later, I'd say this is as good as it's going to get.

If you're reading this & have a choice, have her get fixed, not you, simple for 99% is not simple for the other 1%, not at all. EVERYONE heals differently, mine are a bit sore right now........and for no apparent reason, but that comes & goes. Like having a bad back or bum knee or something else, it's an everyday thing & you just deal with it.

It took about 3 FULL months before I had my first pain free day though.
