Have had this problem for 7 months. Went to Doctor and did all tests that came back clear of any cancer or hormonal problems, except anemia due to blood loss. This problem is called Menhorragia. Started taking high dose Iron tablets with added Vit C which helped enormously with energy and I could function better as I have two young children. But the Iron tablets doesn't stop the bleeding... I have since been to a very good Chinese Doctor and found the advice and understanding of how it is caused, was explained so well. Basically our bodies have become Toxic with food additives, junk food, and "modern day lifestyle", also any significant stress towards your partner has an affect also. Your reproductive area is a womans, "womanhood strength area". It represents our love and strength of who we are inside as strong women. When we are in a negative relationship with a partner (this includes a negative up-bringing with a critical father-figure) that puts you down or makes you feel less than the woman you truly are, problems will arise in this area, so we don't have to have sex with them.. The excess bleeding is your body going into a natural form of cleanse. But unless you change your food and drink intake (try to eliminate sugar), and remove any mental hurts with a good therapist so you know you are a beautiful person again regardless of what anyone says, this problem will stay until your body can re-adjust itself, which can take months and even years. Your liver and kidneys inside will also be working overtime to cleanse your body (hence eliminate sugar, and they will be back on line very fast. The first 3-4 days you will feel awful as it leaves your system, then you feel amazing and your body starts to function better). The Chinese doctor made me some herbal tea's from different roots, sticks leaves, it honestly looked like he'd been out pruning his garden and threw it all together! It tasted Ok, and after 2 weeks, my heavy bleeding has stopped. He also did some acupuncture and just overall my body has started to feel "normal" again, and I am so much more relaxed and calm, like I am in tune with myself again. The difference is incredible. Another herb I started eating to help clean my body was parsley. Since eating chunks of parsley throughout the day, I no longer have to take the Iron tablets with Vit C. My thinking is also clearer, no more brain fog, but the energy is absolutely wonderful. Found out parsley was used long ago for this very reason to stop heavy bleeding, as parsley is loaded with vitamin C and Iron. It works quicker than the tablets and stops cravings quickly for junk food or sugar foods. Also fresh grated ginger boiled as a tea helps your stomach cleanse, and also fenugreek seeds boiled and drank as a tea is a huge help too in stopping the heavy bleeding. Cinnamon sticks boiled in a tea also, and evening primrose oil capsules will assist in healing our woman's area. I am not a Doctor or A Hippie, but just wanted to get to the cause of this frustrating problem that seems to be happening a lot with women. Hope the above can help you as it has for me. Take care.

I have been having trouble with my periods over the last 6 months or so. All my life I was very regular and blood flow normal, occasional small clots but nothing out of the ordinary. However since the fall Ive had several periods that have lasted over 2 weeks. The latest one was almost 2 months long. Also, have been passing some rather large clots, fleshy texture, several inches long. I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound, external and internal, which showed no tumors or fibroids, however the lining of my uterus was too thick. I had a biopsy taken with a diagnoses of disordered proliferative endometrium. I go to doctor this week and hopefully she will explain to me what this means! I also have had hypothyroid issues for many years, and everything started going out of whack for me with my period when I was under a lot of stress - working sometimes past 2 in the morning and up again at dawn for a few weeks straight. In my research I've found that stress can really throw the whole hormonal system out of balance. Esp not sleeping at night can disrupt melatonin production which can effect estrogen balance. Also, I've learned that if you have a cycle where you dont ovulate, then the lining of your uterus can build up very thick (and as happened to me - I skipped a period, then had one extra heavy and long after that as all that had built up was released.) My doctor told me that it is very common for this to happen to women once in awhile, esp while under stress, and that often it resolves itself in the next cycle. If your cycle does not normalize, then it is time to visit the doctor - its very important to have tests done to determine why you are having abnormal bleeding - as there can be many different kinds of causes, which require different treatments. Hormonal imbalance is a very common cause. There are some links to all the hormones being given to animals and meat and dairy consumption, so I would eliminate those things from your diet if you are concerned unless they are organic and hormone free. ALso, much can be done with diet and herbs to help women rebalance. Many nutrients are needed in hormone production and deficiencies can cause problems. Google " balancing hormones naturally " or "balancing hormonal system with nutrition or herbs" and you will learn about a lot of plants that have been helping women for centuries. The diet that is best for these kinds of problems is whole foods, and nutrient dense, avoiding processed foods and sugar, and get plenty of greens for the minerals. Also very very important is enough rest! I'm working on learning all I can about rebalancing the hormones naturally, I'll let you know how it goes. Wishing you all well! (So nice to be able to share our stories )

Large clots could indicate uterine fibroids. Read about it and/or ask your doctor for information.
