I have always thought that i am abnormal, my cycle lasts 7 days, its very heavy and painful throughout but on the 6th day the pains become severe because i pass large clots about 2-3" long, it has been that way since i was 13 and im now 26, annemic and have no children.

My mother says if i could just have one child il be okay, so my husband and i have been trying for more than a year now, but iam still not getting pregnant. Its so frustrating.

Most of what is being said is just a side effect of irregular periods. Most irregular periods are for lack of ovulation, so the blood that you should have "shed" (It lined your uterus) has sat to long and formed clots. The starting & stopping is sometimes caused by a clot blocking blood flow. If I'm blessed with a month with little clotting I'll bleed heavy for 4 days using 2 tampons & a pad every hour... Mostly I clot a lot and start/stop every few days for about 2 weeks. But make sure to to have your yearly physical as heavy bleeding can be a sign for cancer.

I know this was over a year ago, but if you are bleeding for over a month you could have an ovarian cyst on your ovary. Have they given you an ultrasound to rule that out. I was 18 years old when I had one and I never had any pain. The only reason I went to my doctor was because I bleed for a month. When they removed it, It was so big that it fit in a gallon bucket. They took pictures of it. It looked like a brain. Yuck!

You have experienced signs of a most likely late menopause and, it will cause you to have these same health issues occur more frequently. And they will diminish as you grow older, also it is inevitable in your case with the symptoms that you have described.

I realize this is a year later, but you really need to find a different dr! I have never heard of any instance that "once a yr the right ovary shuts down".....that's sounds like a big fat crock of poo! What happened May very well have been a "normal" thing, but I'm also pretty sure that pregnancy does not make you immune to fibroids. My sister has 4 beautiful boys (ages 11-19) and she recently had a hysterectomy due to fibroids, and she didn't have them before kids!

Hi, the doctors comment about people being immune to endometreosis isn't excatly correct.. I know a few people with it that have children; including my own mother.

It just recently happened to me.  I am pre-menepausal and my periods will be light and then heavier some months.  I figure when I have a light one it's just not a complete period, meaning I will lose some of the blood but not the lining which is attatched to the uterous.   So I had several light periods over the last several months and then passed a big liver sized clot which was all of the lining at once.  I was sitting in a warm bath when it passed; I felt a little pulling as if it was attached to some indemetreosis.  They say they are like weeds inside the uterous and can make periods painful as the lining is entangled in it.  I am thinking of having my uterous cleaned out, where they can go in and remove the indemetriosis.    It may stop the big clots from happening I hope!

Get yourself checked out by an Ob/Gyn. The doctor will confirm if your clotting is normal or abnormal.

Speaking for myself, I've almost always had heavy bleeding accompanied with clots 3 or 4 days into my periods. In fact, it just happened. There's never any cramping but I do tend to feel lethargic and cold. It's hard to keep my eyes open, even right now...and I know 65 degrees isn't exactly summer temperatures but I got to tell you, it's cold as all out. It's freezing! Anyway, for me this is normal. I've always lived with it. At one point, the bleeding was so heavy, it would soak through pads, undies and my pants (I once walked home from work not realizing I was soaked down to the thigh). I'd go through 10 pads in five hours during the 2nd or 3rd day and then it would taper off and stop. For me, normal was skipping 1 or 2 months of my periods every year and when it did come, I learned to wear 2 pads at the same time...just to ensure that there weren't any accidents. Generally speaking, I think I'm fine but I will say this....when I lost 45 lbs. it wasn't as bad as it had been. I mean, there wasn't that much of a difference but it was slightly better. Still, it was and still is stressful as all out...Jesus.

Have you been checked for a fibroid tumor in your uter. I have had the same problem. Where I could fill a pad in 10 min or less how bad I was bleeding. The dr didn't believe me. I was at work one day having a stressful day and coughed and passed like 7 blood clots and blood all over the floor was so embarrassed and a lady told me as I was leave to go to the hospital to be checked for one. I was like I been dealing with this for 6 year and been checked for everything I thought. Well when I got there I told the nurse about it and she said the could check to see if that was the case of it and guess what I had fibroid tumor bigger than a grapefruit. Have been better since they removed it. Wish you luck.

Your cramps are a sign of either you are trying to pass a clot or you are passing too much blood at once. Silly to hear I know but this happens to me all the time.

How have you never been to a gynecologist? That's just not smart. I hope you're not sexually active, girl! Try to find a free clinic. It'll take all day, but you'll know more about YOU, which means you'll know if YOUR bleeding is "normal." Totally a step in the right direction! :-)
