Lexapro created a rash & itching on me too. But when stopped, went away quickly. Loved Lexapro!! have tried many other meds thru the years but Lexapro was a miracle worker for me! Made me feel like myself again! (wouldn't ya know?) Had to stop & now looking for something else as wonderful. Sh..!
If you did better on the Predisone and worse after stopping then your physician should've immediately checked your adrenal function. If your adrenals are shot or well on their way then improving while on Predisone should've clued your doctors in that you may have had the bad reactions to the other medication/s BECAUSE your adrenals are not functioning properly. It astounds me, the number of individuals licensed to practice that are clueless about things like this then wonder why their patients fail to get any better. They throw pills at the symptoms instead of finding out why the person reacted to the medicines like they did. Hope this helps someone else that's needing or wanting answers. In Medical schools, each student will learn a little bit about everything unless they go on to specialize in a certain area. Unfortunately, even those who go on to specialize in the endocrine system still hold on to the false belief that adrenal insufficiency is rare and more often then not, have patients that remain constantly sick because they fail to recognize it. It is not as rare as society is lead to believe. It's just under diagnosed. Maybe once more physicians start listening to their patients and stop ignoring the elephant in the room then many of their patients will stop getting sick as often or see more improvement. Some of us spent years studying medicine because we want people to get better even if it means less money. Treat every patient the same way you would want your loved ones treated.
I am 17 and I have been taking lexapro for about 6 months, the rash started about 3 months ago on my thighs and stomach. First as small very itchy bumps. Then it turned into a rash that kinda looked like hives. Now it's on my back legs arms and stomach. When I showed my family doctor she said it was scabies and prescribed me an ointment. I applied it three times over a month and showed no results. They can't switch my meds Bc it's one of the only one that my doctor is comfortable prescribing to minors so I plan on switching doctors very soon. I am so glad I found this site.
Thank you for that
I am going through this at the moment. Mi an tittering off the med as I am allergic. Hives all over my body. I have never experienced anything like this before. For itch I take extra strength reactine. 24hr ones - one every 12 hrs though. Hives are there but do not itch. They just look gross. I have also found caffeine makes them worse and so does things like avacado which have high histamine levels. The rash slowly is getting better as the levels of leap to go down. It takes time. Hope this helps.

My son had a reaction with the same symptoms yesterday, 1 hour after taking his first tablet. My older son found him on the bathroom floor and called an ambulance. The ER Said it was definitely an allergic reaction and gave him something to counteract it
Having had a very hard time getting off Paxil several years ago (got off it due to 70 pound weight gain and it stopped working), I was hellbent on avoiding these drugs for depression/anxiety. Recently, my dr prescribed Lexapro which he encouraged me to go on for its calming effects. Reluctantly, I went on it for anxiety after trying herbal stuff that had no effect. About the second week I got seriously itching rashes that turned to hives that turned to blisters and these came in waves and were mostly on my feet. Dr then advised me to taper off. I'd been on it only one month. I began to taper but these lesions were on the soles of my feet, couldn't wear but one pair of sandals. Nah! So I simply stopped it altogether, knowing with a taper I'd have to endure this till it was out of my system. One week off it I still got those itchy horrible things. Hope I can find SOMETHING for anxiety/depression that works and does not have lethal side effects.
About 2 months ago i had my medications changed and i have been prescribed lexapro and neulactil for depression and anxiety . It was about 1 month into the new meds that i woke up one morning with a swollen face , then a red itchy rash on my hands and arms . I went back to the doctor who told me i had a sensitivity to the sun . I have never had this issue in 45 yrs . I persevered only to have the red rash increas to cover the whole of my back , neck , arms and stomach areas, large red irritated rash that drove me crazy with the itchiness . I have ceased all medication until i see my doctor again as i know that its the meds causing this reaction and not the sun
I have also been taking lexapro for almost 3 years and all of a sudden 2 weeks ago I started getting a rash on my arms, now it is on my thighs and hips. But I had such a bad reaction 3 years ago when I tried getting off of the antidepressant fluoxetine and they put me on lexapro. I feel great emotionally so I am really scared of getting off of it. I don't think I could survive the horrible symptoms of getting off of it again. Any suggestions.
I have now had sever itching, some rashiness and hives, on Effexor, Celexa and Lexapro. Now, I am scared to try anything else. The fact that itching and hives is not listed as a side effect is horrible.
I get these electric shocking sensations in my head when I withdraw. I think the lex is making me itchy. It def sucks up my sex life.
My boyfriend started getting some hives on his body after taking the Lexapro. He's not taking anything else so just wondering if this is a side effect. He's been taking drug like almost 2 wks
