I was only on Lexapro for a month at 10mg. After quitting cold turkey and taking a course of Predisone my rash cleared up within 2 weeks. I'm now trying Zoloft (which is also in the same family) but I'm starting to see the beginnings of amother reaction :( I hope I'm wrong. Best of luck
How long did it take the hives to go? I have had months of hives and realised that it must be the lexapro and went off them within a week. I took the drug for eight years so I guess it will take a while for the lexapro to get out of my system.
It’s been a dreadful experience, and I had the same thing happen after being on Effexor after three years fifteen years ago.

All antidepressants have had this horrible affect on me and make me sooo itchy. I had hives from lexapro last year and wasn't sure it was from that so tried another 5mg yesterday and about an hour later I had a very itchy hive on my face resembling a mosquito bite and 2 on my arm. I woke up this morning with a giant hive on my arm which is now a scab. I am hoping this will go away soon.
I have started a taper down from 20 mg of Lexapro after being on it for 16 years. About 2 weeks into the taper, I experienced extreme itching with a rash that comes and goes. The itching keeps me from sleeping. My dermatologist has tested me for skin allergies: all negative. I am convinced it is wd syndrome. I have to continue the taper despite the itching. I want to be free of Lexapro.
I broke out in hives 5 weeks after starting Lexapro. Stopped taking it a month after that. 5 months later my hives are still covering my body. None of my doctors think it was the Lexapro.
I’ve been on Lexapro for 7 weeks and just upped my dosage about 2 weeks ago to 20mg. Just woke up with welt like rash on my inside elbows, wrists, ankles, chest, back and groin area. After reading this, going to stop taking and start benedryl. Yikes.
My case is exactly the same as yours, I was wondering how you are doing now? Hopefully better
My daughter started taking Lexapro 45 days ago. After almost 30 days she developed 2 huge blisters on her fingers. She also developed circular areas that at first looked like mosquito bites on her legs. They gradually turned sort of blistery and then faded then several more popped up. Dr prescribed steroids , large doses, for a week and they finally went away. We had to release the blister on her finger because it was gigantic. It was the first time her psychiatrist had seen such a rash from Lexapro. she stayed on the medicine because it is working well and we are watching for further issues. Ive heard of people getting a rash initially and it going away. So far its been 2 weeks and the horrible blisters and rash have not returned.
I have a rash covering my entire body, it burns, it itches, and it weeps and keeps getting infected. I've been on lexapro for over 2 years, after 6 biopsies, prednisone, antibiotics, nothing has helped. I tapered off my lexapro per my doctors instructions. After eliminating everything we feel this could be the cause. Its wicked, dont mess around.
Hi! I was on Lexapro for five weeks - 5mg. I started having itching problems within 3 weeks (started using Zyrtec and then Allegra (Zyrtec made me super sleepy)), and then began to have issues with hives. The hives were on the mid and upper torso area and upper arms. My doctor took me off the medication after six weeks. It took about two weeks before the itching stopped. After the itching stopped, several weeks later, I developed issues of bumpy skin on my fingers, toes and around the wrists. Eventually the skin came off my fingers, wrists, toes and bottom of my feet (skin bubbled up in the shower/bath or while doing dishes). It took over two months to get over the skin issues. Hope this helps!
I'm in the middle of hives from lexapro after 3 weeks and you are the only one so far that said hives were gone quickly. I was told to quit cold turkey. Really hoping for a speedy recovery.

Did you ever find another ssri ?
I was on Lexapro for almost 20 years (10mg) with absolutely no problems. A year ago I weaned off it over a period of 6 weeks without issue. 3 weeks ago, I started to take it again. Within days I was itching everywhere. I tried benedryl to relieve the itch, but with no relief. Eventually the allergic symptoms got worse, swelling of lips and tongue and I was beginning to fear anaphylaxis. So I stopped. It’s only been 3 days and I’m getting some relief from the allergic symptoms. I know it takes time to get it all out of system. However, I need to take another anti-depressant, but I want to be sure I don’t have another allergic reaction. How can I tell if another med doesn’t have similar ingredients?
