so post op one week
thought i would be in much more pain than this!!!
am generally getting around,
have wheel chair for shopping trips, trip to zoo (preop)
my back is killing me...
jsut so you all know, my OS put plates with srews on either side of my T MT joints (taral-metatarsal) on 3 of 5 bones, and then 1 screw through the 1st lisfranc jnt
his idea was that he wasnt crossing jnt spaces as much therefore reducing likelyhood/severity of arthritis.
dont like reading that im going to be limited in what i do.... im 22 i have everything to do.... but i spose i will find out for myself what i can and cant do, and have to deal with it.
pissed off big time, and rang lawyers to see about any composation from the establishment where i slipped, as at this point this might not have ruined my life but it definately is life changing and doubt it will be far from the front of my mind most times...

Glad to hear your pain is not that severe. Just follow all of the Dr.'s orders. I understand you have your whole life ahead of you and you will still be able to do all the things that you want to do, it will just take some extra time. I had 5 pins and I am almost 5 months post op and I am slowly getting back to normal, going to the gym and being able to run without being in complete misery! It is a long road and you are going to be even more pissed off as you heal....but you will be back on your feet(funny huh?)...just stay positive and follow orders and you will be great! Keep us posted on your progress!

Kbubb1; congratulations on getting through the first "step" (surgery). Honest to god, look up Roller-Aid on line. They actually rent their little gizmos. I was able to drag a whole bunch of stuff around the house (use the basket, hang things off the handles) They are WAY more maneuverable than wheel chairs; and for the house more practical since you can't carry much when you are on crutches. I took it everwhere even though I looked like a dork.
To all--The good news for me is that I have moved to crutches since I graduated to weight bearing; seeing a Physical Therapist. He said my time walking in the pool really paid off. I was nervous to put weight on the foot expecting great pain and it was really fine. My foot didn't hardly even swell after switching to partial weight bearing. I expect to be walking without crutches within a week to 10 days--yippee!!

Help! Has anyone found a decent brand of shoe that's comfortable and supportive after you graduated from the robo boot? I went shoe shopping tonight and was unsuccessful (a bit humiliated)! I thought I knew just what I wanted, but couldn't get my foot into them or anything else I tried (my new foot is taller than the other one now) :-( so now I'll have to go on a treasure hunt. I'll try any suggestions!

Hello:
I am also a RN, recovering from a traumatic Lisfranc/Crush injury. My specific injury involved early discussions of me "never walking again."
I have deferred responding to this forum until I was in a position to share my personal experience and knowledge concerning this injury. I am 16 weeks post-op and I can jog 2 miles without alot of discomfort. Walking and performing the usual acivities of daily living are getting pretty close to "normal." I received superior surgical care, rehab., etc. and took a most active interest in researching techniques to maximize my recovery. I am back to working in a physically demanding clinical environment. I will have a "good to excellent" functional outcome.
So, the "gloom and doom" mentality of this injury is not always accurate.
I assume that the "taller" description concerns an increase in anterior/posterior diameter of your midfoot and possibly ankle.
Crocs, or other types of these shoes usually work well. Of course, a good quality running shoe (i.e. asics, new balance, etc.) may also work. Try a 1/2 to 1 size larger and wider until your edema dissipates (perhaps up to one year post injury).
I would focus on edema management at this pont to help facilitate shoes and ambulation. Early, active, and consistent PT is an integral component to recovery.
If you need further opinion/suggestions...please let me know. If you wish, we can correspond off this forum via personal e-mail.

Stephanie: I guess it depends, see KBubb1 a couple of posts before yours. Maybe check old postings also??
Limpynurse: I haven't graduated yet but my PT and OS think Dansko brand works for alot of people.

I bought some nike running shoes and those seem to have good support and come on and off pretty easily for me.

Running shoes have also worked well for me (New Balance 755s). One problem I experienced, though, was that my old running shoes -- the ones I actually used to run in -- "overcorrected" when combined with my orthodics. I had to switch to a very neutral running shoe, one that had little native motion control. Most brands have some sort of neutral "cushioned traniner" in their line -- this seems to work best with orthodics, at least for me.

I just bought my first pair of post "boot" shoes as well. For me even pre-injury running shoes never lasted long so if you need something with a harder sole. If you are interested in a hiking shoe Salomon shoes usually have a wider cut and seem to be more comfortable than most on the top of my foot. I just purchased the Salomon Solaris 1 size larger than I normally wear and it feels pretty good.

My son was hurt in motorcycle accident on 9/1/06,(age 20). I have posted here before, but haven't for awhile.
He had 2 lisfranc fractures, 3 screws per foot. He is now back at college and skiing. His feet are swollen by the end of the day, but he either has a very high pain tolerance, or just very determined to do as he use to.
Had his ski boot liner fitted to work with his "new" feet. Does have depression, mostly post traumatic anxiety, due to the accident.
He is fortunate that he lives home still and has health insurance. You sound like you have been physically fit, so just obey the doctors orders as much as you can, start physical therapy and keep as much mobility as you can.

Well, I have now seen several doctors and what was surely thought to be a LisFranc injury could not be determined by MRI. It will be one year on March 11th since I injured my foot and I am still not able to wear any type of sneaker, or high heel work shoe and have a quite a bit of pain once I have walked barefoot. The problem is with the left side of my foot from my last two toes, the whole left side, up to the top left side of my foot. It is severe and no type of pressure can be applied without causing excruciating pain. I have received injection after injection, a boot cast, ace bandages, taping of the foot, and have just had foot orthotics ordered. I have also been told there may be nerve damage as I have a tingling and numbness with certain positions of my foot. I am at my wits end and the doctor states that it would have been a much easier diagnosis had they (workers comp) let me see an actual foot dr or ortho dr when I injured the foot instead of a walk in clinic dr for the last eight months. All I can think is , all this from stepping in a hole with high heels on and taking a hard fall. Good luck to everyone here! And should they ever find out if it is indeed a Lisfranc injury that I have - I will update!

I must say, Good to hear from Guest - 16 weeks post and running 2 miles. Sounds as though you had some awesome care... good for you & again, good to hear!
I read the post from "Marilyn McCubbin" regarding the question about info from bone fusion? I didn't see any replies? I am also curious to know details on that. My ortho surg. told me that is also an option for me... some day down the road. I also still have the pain, swelling & by no means... I cannot run. I've tried to do some of those fun excerise classes , ever heard of Zumba?? I must admit, I ended up laughing at myself.. he he. I'm about 10 months post injury.
Also, I am too having issues with finding shoes. I've been wearing the backless low heel shoe. I used to wear an 8... now I'm a 10 1/2 on my bad foot... the good foot is usally big/oh well.
Also to- kbubb1 - so you slipped & fell ? Did you talk to an attorney? Where are you located?
As one said before, wishing y'all painfree times ahead!

Im Melbourne Australia.
yes i slipped in water, in a nightclub, have spoken to attorney, doesnt look good though...
I have to admit, alot of my depression stems from this thread...
its good to get real ppls opinions and experiences and not just Dr's or surgeons... but at the same time, i feel that 90% of ppl who continue to post here are ppl whom are having problems with there particular injury.
I feel that someone who is fine, is less likely to bother seeking Web help, and less likely to bother posting.
only Doom and gloom my Dr actually told me is about athritis and POSSIBLE fusion like waydown the track.
I have it in my head that this is going to be a MAJOR health problem for the rest of my life, Im already a size 10 shoe, cant go any bigger!! wont be able to go a day with out thinking about how sore my foot is, wont be able to run, climb, ski, travel with backpack, work 12 hours then go out at night, dance all night like all my other 22YO friends and that really freaks me out,
I dont want to be old and sedate at 23...
/end late night depressed rant.
