I gained 40 pounds in 4 weeks on dexamethasone. I have been off it for almost 2 months and have not lost anything. The sad thing is that I had just lost 45 pounds over the past year. I only had about 4 months of a perfect body before this happened. The weight came off easily when it was natural weight but this steroid weight is not going anywhere. And I look fatter now then I did last year. So frustrating.
I went from 270 all the way to 205 in less than a year. I got one shot one Mth ago and two weeks started taking dextamose. I'm already back up to 220,that's 15lbs in 2 weeks.. I'm not taking another pill ever again if it has anything at all to do with steroids or shots either.. The doctors should have to warn people about what these meds can do to them. The sad thing is they didn't help me any..
Steroids injected in your joints usually stay there, they don't travel all around the body and shouldn't cause the weight gain. That being said, there are always exceptions.
I've been on up to 40 mg's of steroid daily for almost 20 years. I was able to maintain my desired weight, but on March 23rd I had a steroid injection on my hip, and today not even 2 weeks later I went back to get my 1st knee injection and when I the nurse weighted I was 11lbs heavier!! I'm super scared of how much weight I will gain from today's injection. My doctor recommended I replace white bread, pastries, pasta, tortillas with, whole wheat healthier options. He advice to be moderate with my servings, and to drink 2 cups of water before each meal. This will fill you up and you won't over eat. My biggest problem is that I'm craving and eating sugars like it's the end of the world. I'm sorry you are all dealing with this, it's s nightmare specially as we get older because it's so much harder to get rid of the weight.
Try taking Curcumin as a dietary supplement--at least 2 a day after or with a meal. It is a natural anti-inflammatory. When I was on Prednisone,I was psycho and gained 40 lbs. At age 60, that's not coming off, but I am now pain free due to the Curcumin and lots of fresh fruit and veggies. Good luck!

I was on prednisone 20mg for 10 days got 3 corticosteroid shots but not in one day. I gained 30 lbs in but not in the 10 days. It was after I stopped the pill is when I swelled up. My face blew up so bad that someone thought I had the mumps. My flat tummy swelled along with swelling in my legs, ankles, and feet. Just put it this way, I was swollen all over.
The swelling in my face gradually went down within 2 months. As for my body swelling, what worked for me was a good cleanse. Within a matter of a few days taking the cleanse a lot of the water weight disappeared. So I'm almost back to my old self again, and I don't look swollen anymore. I was taking the meds for hives.

how do we lose it on fludricortisone and dexamethasone?! I have been on steroids since 1997 and in the last year and half my body hasnt used the meds and had to switch to dex from hydrocortisone....and now I am 40 lbs heavier. In just 8 months or so.
I have HAE I have been put on predispose to keep me breathing over and over again. I have been on predispose for the last 5 weeks and I put on 30lbs in that time. I watch everything that goes in my mouth count every calorie. Predispose might b a life saver but it is a weight monster and its not like regular weight. Its bloat that won't quit. I cry everyday. If anyone has a real clue of how to help with this instead of just flopping out stupid stuff please please let us all know.

I'm right in your foot! I was put on steroids for pneumonia, and was on them for 22 days and I gained 20 pounds and cannot get an ounce of it off. I eat strickly turkey, and salad mix. NO dressing, only water for drinking. Some times I will splurge and have a Pineapple Orange drink for breakfast. I do take a water pill, but have not lost any weight. SO discouraged! I had just lost 87 pounds, got sick immediately gained the 20 and still carrying it. :(

im taking prednisone too for hives. what kind of cleanse are you talking about? I've gained about 15 lbs need to get off before I gain any more.
