Hi Hunnie! Try this, IF she is in a bassinette, raise the bottom of the bassinette till it's about 30 degrees! She is probably suffereing from heartburn! When you know ALL the bases are covered - it comes down to reflux or colic! Reflux - the lack of a firm closing of the flap over the esophogus, so the acid - from the stomach - comes up into the esophogus - causing a burning feeling that HURTS! It takes them awhile until her flap has matured and slams shut!

Keeping her at an angle, keep the acid down in the stomach! Also when you go to burp her, lay her on your knees - belly first - and rock your legs back and forth and firmly rub her back this is a FANTASTIC way to get ALL the little bubbles up and out! You might think she is TOTALLY burped, but just look at her face to see how she looks after the burp - to see if she needs some more!

Also are you breast feeding? If so start writing down what you are drinking and eating! Let me know too - I can tell RIGHT away what is a trigger - believe me I lived this for YEARS! So got pretty good at working on it!

Bambie mom I will try and wrap her back up..and I she is still in the bassinette. She is 14lbs she lost 1 pound from getting really sick she was a sick baby for about 12 to 15 days. So now bless her heart she wants to sleep but she just crys at night not during the day which is weird she is the best little one during the day she can nap during the day but night its awful........I will try the wrap again..and tonight hopefully the wrap will help. I fill like such a bad mommy because I let her cry it out last night for 20 mins..I went and checked on her like every min..but when I did she would stop crying and smile at me..she just broke my heart :'( so I told her it was ok and after 20 mins of this I cryed along with her but she went to sleep and that was 10:30 and slept till 2:30 then back up the whole night doing the power nap thing. But I got 4 hours of sleep.. :-) So I will try the wrap tonight bambie and see if this helps. And is Elysa to young to do the cry it out?? Or am I just mean? I never had to do this with my other two. :'( And I haven't gotten anything yet if you sent it out last week then it should be anyday now maybe friday or saturday. Thanks mom for the help I need it with no sleep.

And Hunnie I know its hard with a little one and with other kids in the house its no fun. Do you have anyone to help you since she was just born? I am asking for help my friends have been a saver. i AM SORRY YOU ARE HAVING A HARD TIME.Those cap naps are just the worst thing ever.

Becky i let my little one have some crying time i mean when she get up for a drink during the day i let her have a cry well after the first side and let her burp and then let her have a cry, and sometimes i have a cry with her .. my hormones are still a little unbalanced cause i have good days and i have real bad days no matter when i sleep pr how long i have had to sleep

then i wrap her so she still has her hands free to be able to still have skin to skin contact with me ... put her up on my shoulder and burp her and put her to bed .... and usually if i do that during the day at night she sleeps 5-6 hours .. i felt like a bad mummy as well cause i gave in and gave my daughter a dummy just to give me 5 minutes peace the other night cause i felt like my body didnt have a chance to refill and provide anything to satisfy her belly

Bambi ... i think i have narrowed it down to 1 of 3 things .. Mint sauce ,egg from bacon and egg pie and or the mixed vege with corn ... that gave my little girl a sore tummy , cause the next morning she had the solid green poop which is an indercater of a gripey tummy which is why all she wanted to do was feed feed feed (comfort feeding)

Yesteraday i went shopping and brought me come complain to drink which is a meal in a meal and so far today .. i have had 2 shakes she is settled down really well .. except for waking every 2 hours for a drink last night but even though tired ok cause i think this is a growth spurt come early she will be 2 weeks old in about 4 days and just getting it early ... or gearing me up for it

Oh isnt it weird when you know you child is asleep or quiet but you can still hear their little cry i have been hearing it which has made me leak on occasion ....

ANY way i am so happy i finally got a child who is feeding for me ... my boys never did and now i am glad that she is my last and she is feeding for me ...

the only help i have is my DP who helps when he can he is a dairy farmer so there is really only breakfast lunch and after milking .. but he is usually tired him self when he get home after the afternoon milking but he does alot with the older children so i can get some rest in the afternoon around lunch time ... cause some times he is home from about 12 30ish to about 3 some times he is back out on the farm after about an hour of lunch .... i had my DP nana here on the 6th-7th of december i had Katelyn on the 19th stayed in the hospital till the 20th came home and she left the 21st of decemmber so i havnt had any help except my DP who has just gone back to work on the 28th of december so this is day 3 of doing it all by my self ... which the first day was the longest and i had a cry at him when he got home yesterday i was out and about had to go and have a scan and today being Thursday we slept from about 11ish to about 1 30ish ... i did any way she was down from about 9 30 -10 am

Ok i have written my novel i WIll see you all ni the new year it is new years eve tomorrow so i will be back in 2011 WOOP WOOP

NO CORN!!!! Mammals are made to digest corn properly! So we don't digest it - giving us little yellow bullets in our poop!!! LOL and babies DEFINITELY can't! I also think Mint Sauce might be a culprit, but on the other hand mint is used for upset tummies - and vinegar usually doesn't represent a problem! Also swaddling is the BEST thing for brand new babies! They need to feel safe and tight - just like in the tummy! So it doesn't matter about skin on skin at this point - as she will when she is feeding - it's the smell of you that helps her settle! So another friend of mine would sleep or have certain blankets with her ALL the time and then swap off the baby sheet, so her son could smell her all the time! It TOTALLY worked! And I think it's a great idea! Sleep is the most important and it's hard when you have other children! IF you feel like you are experiencing baby blues, let the midwife know OK? Most of the time the BB's work their way out of the system! The other times they need little kick!

Becky I don't think she is too young to let her cry for a bit! What I did and my friends is start with 5 minutes, go back in, DON'T pick her up, just talk soothingly too her and rub her back etc, then leave again IF she cries again, make it 6 minutes etc. DON'T go longer than 20 minutes - they can get themselves into such a mess that it's hard to even get them to get a grip after you pick them up! Look at her face IF she is looking at you yet she is looking agitated or still upset, then it is probably air bubbles etc. Does she spit up a lot? Also are you breast feeding too or have her on formula?

mum does it hurt babies to go through a growth spurt?

The jury is out on that one! Many years ago doctors would blame ALL bone pain on "growth spurts" but many of those cases were signs of childhood arthritis! In babies, growth spurts are usually in 3's - 3, 6, 9, 12, 3 months, 6 months, 9 and then 12! So when all of a sudden your baby starts crying more and you find yourself feeding more - this will be due to that particular growth spurt! NOW if your baby is having pains while feeding it's back to square one to find out what is causing that pain - with the extra feeding! The best way is to write down ALL that you eat and drink, and how she handles the feeding 4 - 6 hours after! Just note that some drinks or foods - vitamins etc - can actually affect the breast milk faster than the average of 4 - 6 hours and others can take upto 24 hours to enter the milk supply! IF you drink Cows milk she might be lactose intolerant - especially within the 1st couple of hours after drinking milk! BOTH my boys couldn't handle milk! My youngest STILL is lactose intolerant! So even though it's a bit of work, it's FAR better to find out what's irritating her and have better rest!
