I quit six weeks ago.

After three weeks one of my lymph nodes (above and to the left of my Adam’s apple) swelled up to the point that it hurt to swallow. It stayed swollen for a week and a half when the right lymph node started to swell.

I haven’t coughed much up but have had on again off again sore throats throughout the six weeks.

I’ve been getting some nausea and kind of a general feeling of being unwell.

Hanging in there though. I found Allen Carr’s method very helpful.

I’m 32, smoked a pack every two days for about seven years.

Thank you for the update. I am experiencing the same symptoms and they themselves cause even more anxiety. Have been to the doctor several times and they have found nothing (I do have reflux). It is almost 5 months cig free for me and the feeling that you can't breathe is just starting to improve some. The "lump in the throat feeling" is still there. Sometimes it disappears for a couple hours, but most the time is still there. I think it is a combination of anxiety and a symptom of quitting cigs. It would be nice if the "true" symptoms of quitting were more publicized. At least I wouldn't think I was going crazy and or dying. I am going to see if I can find a tea that may help with the throat. Gargling salt water 3 times a day helps a bit as well. I'm just going to try to muster through this as I do not want to put myself through this again.

I quit just over 6 weeks ago, cold turkey. Smoked from the age of 13 and up to 20 a day, I’m 38 now. Smoked joints every day for the last 15 years, prior to that it was bongs etc. Since quitting I’ve felt extremely ill, I’ve had flu symptoms, a general feeling of being unwell, 2 throat infections, sore and itchy ear canals, headaches, a weird burning in my throat (like reflux) and the sensation of a lump in my throat. Hopefully won’t last too long but after reading others posts, I may be in for another year or so. Fingers crossed!

I quit January 1st 2018 it's been 3 months since I touched a cig. I smoked aince i was 20 im 38 now. However I did start vaping but now I feel as if I do Not need the vape anymore. I am wigging out here and there though. I feel like something is in my throat which there probably isn't . It's just my head feeding fear that's it's cancer. And it's also harder to swallow since I quit. It feels dry in my nose to my throat when I breath. Is anyone else experiencing these sort of shitty symptoms? Should I be alarmed.

3 weeks of attempting to quit smoking. I can normally go all day without a cigarette and really no cravings. The issue is the side effects that I personally did not know of until coming across this site. I have been to the doctor 3 times for throat issues, the latest being the lump feeling, the burning, scratchy, and dehydrated all the time feeling. I am currently waiting for blood results and I'm more relieved after reading all these posts, that there's probably nothing to worry about. Does not help though, not knowing, which sends Anxiety through the roof, not to mention irritability, fatigue, body aches everywhere. But now I know. I know I'm not alone. I just wish that the 3 separate doctors that I have seen were aware of these side effects and put your mind at ease. I had one doctor insist that I get tested for SDTs? Either way, glad I stopped by this site. Kick the Habutt!

I am in my 2nd week not smoking after smoking for 30 years. I have the exact same symptoms. The lump in my throat is by far the worst. I also thought I was dying and have been freaking out. As you said though it seems all the people I have read about have the same issues.

Hi there, I just recently quit smoking. I have been smoking since I was 17 years old (I am 55 now). The reason I started was simply to show off, look cool and be "one of the guys!". I was such an id**t!!. Anyways, I reached the stage where I was smoking nearly up to 2 packs a day (20 sticks). I did "quit" smoking like maybe about 20-30 times through the years but always came back because I thought I could always stop as and when I needed to. I keep telling myself, -- "I was not an addict!!--"

Just felt the need to say the above....

I have stopped smoking now. 6 months to date. Just quit cold turkey because I told myself, "I don't want to smoke anymore". I have been lucky, so far no issues health wise. Who knows what the future may hold for me.
- But I have noticed that I get more restless now;
- I don't sleep that well these nights;
- I feel lumps in my throat;
- I feel all kinds of ailments with myself;
- I am putting on more weight;
- my bones ache;

My doctor and endocrinologist is saying that there will definitely be some effects to me for sure. But now that I have stopped smoking, I am feeling all these effects that I already had from before but now it does not get masked by the smoking.

I have to live with this.
JUST TELL YOURSELF, "I AM STOPPING SMOKING TODAY!!".

I wrote this post i'm quoting a good while back. The lump deal is a given for most after quitting and lasted bit longer than a year for me. the cough after i never had i coughed before i quit. Also smoking treats irritable bowl syndrome so that may pop up after you stop it did for me. It was one heck of road to be smoke free but i'm on 5 years without smoking just hang tough and never go back to smoking. ~cheers~

P.S. Way back when my doctor told me quitting does not have symptoms like these but I'm here to tell you if any doctor tells you that find a new doc because he is full of BS. There are a host of after you quit symptoms that are benign and no ones tells you about them and most will go away in time just relax don't let your mind go wild with unfounded theories. I smoked for 31 years before i quit. I am still edgy when i get stressed but i'm ok with that. lol . Your not alone we all went through this c**p after stopping so hang tough better days ahead and more money not buying cigs.

This is the answer I was looking for! Quitting is hard and I was really scared cause I felt a lump in my throat and was SURE it was cancer :( I will still get it checked out if it persists after about 3 months.
