Ok hi, I felt compelled to write this after reading a good few hypochondriac posts by some overdramatic people.
I have been off cigarettes for 5 days and yes my throat hurts too, it's hoarse, there's a lump and it hurts to swallow.
That is a mixture of phlegm, skin cells that are irritated because they're not getting any nicotine and also they're now beginning to repair a lot of damage done to them. You guys will be coughing up tar, mucus and phlegm for a good while, depending how long/how much you've smoked, if any symptoms get worse then go to a doctor and do not post on here, no one here is medically qualified and can diagnose you.
Well done for not smoking, it's not easy but you can do it. I also reccommend downloading the app SmokeFree, it tells you how much money you're saving, life regained, cigarettes you've not smoked, sets you missions to do and gives you an idea on how your body is doing with the healing process of not smoking.

Hello glad i found this forum .I have had the same kinds of feelings like others here have noted.Sore throat pains and heart racing as well as dizzyness.Today i am 30 days smoke free and cant believe i have made it this far.I'm putting my symtoms down to giving up the smokes and hope it will settle in time .I am reading that alot of people are using the e cig to help them quit the smokes as well. I did alot of research on these things and it turns out they are not that good for you as first thought. It turns out the chemicals used in them lower your immune system from what i read anyway true or not i have no idea but its been proven in a study so i read.So be carefull using these as well .

So glad I found this post. I stopped smoking 10 weeks ago and been driving myself made searching the Internet for answers. I too have a lump in my throat, swollen glands, earache and trouble swallowing As well as acid reflux. Every thread points to the big C. Have an ENT appointment in 2 days. Glad I'm not alone with these feelings and certainly feel far less stressed

everyone heals at a different seeing an ENT is good choice to rule out things if all clear know that with enough time the lump does go away but varies with one to another but stay smoke free don't start again hang in there took me over a year to get my throat back to normal we did this to our selves now let the body heal i found the numbing throat drops help and harsh caffeine drinks slow things down from healing a bit along with fizzy sodas wish you all luck in your quest for normalcy. Cheers

All I can say is OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
I cant believe what I am reading and to think I've been thinking I'm going crazy !
I gave up smoking coldturkey (after 15 years/pack a day) only a week ago and I have since had MAJOR panic attacks , chest pain, nausea, hot/cold chills, indigestion, burping......and then throw in a dose of depression.....
I feel like I'm going mad - or like there must be some other "disease" like cancer or something making me feel this way.
In this last week, I've been to ER thinking I was having a heart attack, they did every test you could think of and nothing showed up, and I went and had full bloods done AGAIN because I don't believe there's nothing wrong!- this coming week I'm booked to have a gastroscopy and colonoscopy - just to put my mind at rest that I am NOT dying from some other disease-
The worse thing, is googling all the symptoms I have has led me to believe that I have some other malignant disease like cancer or something when in fact it may just be what you all describe "WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS"
I only happened across this page by accident- I really wish the "Quit Smoking" sites would tell us that we can experience these symptoms , that would have given me some relief that it' snot all in my mind and I'm not going "crackers" - all they mention are the "benefits" of quitting and not the reality that it is in fact a really HARD WORK to achieve.
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed here- I'm hoping after my results from the Bloods and the gastroscopy/colonoscopy this week, I'll get the message that I AM OK, this is just a normal part of quitting this disgustingly addictive habit and this will inspire me to continue the detox from my body and continue forward to a healthy life!
Best regards
Jewelzy
