I'm glad I found this site... I've become a hypochondriac since I quit smoking 6 months ago and feel like I'm losing my mind with the irregular heartbeat and constant aches & pains that seem to travel from one place to another.  The most recent places its settled in is throat and    jaw.  I'm on antibiotics that don't seem to do anything (because antibiotics don't help the big "C" right? That's where my mind goes constantly since my quit date).     I'm glad to know I am not alone in this strange new world as a non-smoker.  Don't get me wrong.. I am glad to be smoke- free and have no intention of going through this again!

Hey all, so I posted a while back just after quitting smoking. I'm so pleased to say that it's now been 4 months since I had a smoke and all the symptoms I was experiencing - swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, aches in my back and lungs - have gone. I feel great. Not saying that this will be the same for everyone but hopefully it will give some encouragement to everyone going through the health problems we read about here. Good luck all!

I gave up smoking 80 days ago and on e-cigs, I have a feeling of a lump in my throat. Dr said its viral but its still not gone - ears feel blocked and glands in neck are up. I fear throat cancer so much. Please help me! Has anyone else had this lump feeling for so long?
I'm terrified - any help greatly appreciated

I quit smoking cigarettes (and weed at that time) along time ago (6 Years). I did get sick and got better within 3 months. I ended up in the hospital getting antibiotics pumped into me then. I started smoking Weed again 3 months after quitting cigarettes . 2 Months ago I quit smoking weed. I have felt like sh*t ever since the end of the first month. I am sure it will pass . Currently my throat has the "Lump" and Clicking . It hurts to swallow. My doc couldn't see anything. It's been over 30 days like this. I live in Vancouver BC and we have some of the best weed around being sold at dispensaries and such.

I discovered that 1 joint has about 4 times the tar as 1 cigarette . I smoked about 2 - 4 joints a day. I also think that weed has worse (bigger) particulates in it than cigarettes as cigarettes have a filter, weed doesn't. I am under the impression that during this detoxing bigger chunks of c**p comes up because weed is different than cigarettes . The weird thing is since i quit smoking cigarettes 6 years ago, i never coughed while smoking weed. I am not coughing now. All i have is a generalized shitty feeling and the "Lump" and painful swallowing. Also my mouth tastes like c**p. Perhaps the c**p from my lungs is being pushes up slowly which is why my throat is so messed up and that's why i have the horrible taste in my mouth. Either way I grabbed some antibiotics this time to take while going thru this just in case.

My Experiences.

I have the same symptoms. I don't think you need to worry. Detoxing is hard on the body. the lump and hard to swallow thing started about 30 days after quitting for me.. Its been like this for 30 days since . I has gotten worse and i have a c**p taste in my mouth. Im sure its detoxing.

This has helped me a lot. I am sorry that you are going through this but I am glad that its not just me. I had a terrible evening yesterday and cried myself to sleep. It annoys my partner because he doesn't understand. I have no friends and cannot talk to anyone about what I am going through. Thank you for posting this xxxx

My throat has not gotten much better since quitting. at the 1 month mark is when my throat started getting a lump and I'm now starting my fourth month. I have gotten laryngitis for a week or so as well. I don't think you (or I) have cancer! Teeth infections can cause throat irritations (I have a bad tooth and it could be the cause for me), Sinus Infections can also make your throat feel terrible as they appear once you quit smoking, I also firmly believe that it can take longer than 4 months to clear your lungs especially if you were a long time smoker.

I found that exercise can make my throat feel better. I also found that when i force myself to cough i can sometimes feel better. I tried a netti pot and it was great. I have also tried to get rid of all the dust in my house which has helped. I also have been taking extra vitamins which seems to of helped. Cutting out milk can help too, as milk can affect your sinuses . (kinda horrible to cut out my morning tea so I don't know if i'm gonna do that). Drink lots of liquids seems to help.

You'll be ok ...

Thank you so much for your reply - I greatly appreciate it. I am so sorry that you too are going through this c**p after getting off the fags - DRs tell me that mine is health anxiety BUT this feeling is what started my anxieties lol. I will try some of your ideas and see if they help me. I wish you good health xxxx

Update i have posted about lump in throat i am now an ex smoker for the last 16 months it took a year for most of the symptoms to go away the glands that were swollen were saliva glands i have gone through the tooth aches and stuff seems when you stop smoking more bacteria builds up faster for anyone thinking cancer if you had it you would get consistently worse not worse then better i thought that too as far as breathing i don't cough as much but still not perfect either the damage of 30 years of smoking is done. I feel better in some ways but worse in others I guess you pay to play. But i would not start smoking again for sure. Hang in there it gets bearable after enough time.

Thanks for your posts, including the follow up. Great to hear that the symptoms have subsided after 4 months. I am at one month totally clean (after a slight relapse a few months into my initial quit). I smoked for about the same amount of time as you can have been having the lump in throat, mucus, gas, sometimes burning and strange feelings in my chest. Wasn't coughing before or after the quit, but my nose now sometimes feels stuffy and, though not short of breath, I feel very aware of my breathing Surprised how the farther into the quit, the more these feelings hit. Kicking myself for ever starting, but we all need to look ahead and make each day forward smoke free and the healthiest possible. Looking forward to getting there, and wish everyone else success on their similar journeys.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm at the one month mark and lump in throat has come on, along with gas/burning feeling, tightness in chest. Helpful for our anxiety levels to know that time will help, one day at a time to a healthier life.

Good evening everyone, Krystal klyne here.
Ok, so I gave up on March 12th and by May I had the swallowing issue so suddenly it caused me to have a massive panic attack.

Me now: still swallowing issues but I recently started spending weekends away in my motorhome and when I wake in the mornings in the motorhome, my swallowing is so much better!!! When I wake up at home, my swallowing is weird again, like mucus in the throat. I also notice I have a very stuffy and dry nose most of the time but every single morning (not as stuffy when I sleep in the motorhome)
Could it be to do with the atmosphere in my home?

I have finally come off ecigs too and on lozenges which may have helped my throat also.
I find I can now eat much better but I tend to stay away from meat because I fear choking on it (throat gets dry the more I chew) . I do however eat fish which is easier to swallow.
I had a little meat at Christmas with my meal and managed to swallow a few tiny pieces.

I hope that one day we all finally get complete relief!!!

Hope you all had a great Christmas
Regards
Krystal xxxx
