I also quit smoking 1 month ago....and have been experiencing joint pain...feeling of lump on the left side of neck....middle to upper back pain.....worst feeling and pain I have ever had since child birth but I spoke to my God and promised him that I will never ever touched any ciggie. However I'm now breathing freely and it feels so good although the withdrawal symptoms are still there.

I hope you are now feeling better.
I still get it but I have learnt to live with it and ignore it.

Well, it has been 3 years since I gave up smoking and although I still get this feeling of not being able to swallow, I try to not let it take over my life and since I have stopped being scared of it, I do not get the feeling every minute of every day like I used to.
I have noticed that it is worse at this time of year when its heyfever season, I wake up with flem in my throat that will not shift.

When I first started with this, I stopped eating because I couldn't swallow so lived on soup. Then I would eat but swallow every mouth full with water. Eventually it took control and I stopped eating out and stopped eating in front of my partner.

Now, I have just started eating in front of my partner again and although I don't eat out, I will now eat soup out while my partner has a main course and I will eat the odd bit of solid food out.

I am certain that I will eventually get better and everyone else suffering this will too!!!

I have the same issues like you guys, been a smoker for almost 20 years, i went cold turkey 6 days ago, and i am going thru a lot, but i keep telling myself i quit because, it's good for me and my family, btw i am the only smoker in the house and i have a 7 and a 3 year old. which matters to me a LOT! i remember the 6 days ago, when i am having that last cigarette when my little came to me and he cough because of the smoke, and that was my wake up call, so it leads me to go cold turkey.

Now after 6 days, no cigarette, the cravings are still there, but i am telling myself i quit. now, some issues came during the process, throat problems (feeling of lump when swallowing) headaches, anxiety rapid heartbeats once in a while. thanks i found this site, and its very comforting to read that i am not alone in this journey to healthy living. i am planning to see a doctor this month for some checkup.. damn how i wish i never started smoking..

Lisa,
I have quit smoking and I am experiencing a lump in my throat for some 6 weeks. I am also getting a prolonged bout of smokers flu. Is it anxiety or something more serious? I am getting conflicting info as to what is the cause.

I'm 37 and started smoking in high school. I smoked .5-1 pack a day. I never felt addicted to smoking. I smoked because I liked it. I liked smoking with drinking, with driving, with coffee or with friends. Quitting smoking was actually very easy for me. I didn't have any withdrawals, but I did have several physical issues. I quit February 2017 and felt like sh*t for around four and a half months. The main and hardest issue was the lump in the throat feeling. I thought for sure that it would become so big that I would suffocate. I kept looking at my neck in the mirror expecting to see a huge lump, but there was nothing there. My back hurt and so did my right ear. About two months after I quit, my hands had a tingling feeling for two weeks. I had a few more zits/pimples than normal. Another side effect as waking up and recalling dreams. While I was a smoker, I rarely remembered my dreams. Reading the same effects others experienced was comforting to hear. I have no desire to smoke again (even when I see other smoke or am drinking) party because I don't want to go through the same side effects ever again. I hope this helps others. Smoking is one of the dumbest things you can do and I am glad I quit.

How did it go away? Did you take any medication or visit and ENT?

Hi
Your story is identical to my experiences!
Have you had any medical advice? I've found doctors arent taking me seriously...

You went from smoking to basically chewing your nicotine instead.. Sounds like your bodies reaction from now receiving the drug via your mouth and mucous membranes. Doubtful it's something to worry about and it's more like something to consider. Once you don't need the gum anymore it will go away as well

Stop searching on internet your anxiety will go away if you search for symptoms on internet you will get stressed immune system which will make you feel like you have these symptoms but you actually dont I stopped vaping (smoking) its the samething btw i have these under chin under jaw pain i think its swollen lymph nodes just fighting the dead cell in my throat so you dont have to worry it will take time to recover btw im 19 years old and i always think i have lymphoma which freaks the hell out of me but lets hope for the best I read alot of smoking (vaping) withdrawl symptoms one them is swollen gland or lymph nodes

Hi everyone, I am on my 6th week of cold turkey stop smoking. It's the hardest thing I have ever done. My heart was beating so fast for 2 weeks I didn't know what was going on. I smoked for 15 years. And am glad I finally stopped. The symptoms are the worst and I will never put a cigarette near my mouth again. I am thinking I need to go to a doctor and have blood test just to make sure everything is ok. That's my only worry
