I think the fact that you find MORE negative than positive (you've got to dig to find the GOOD things) is a HUGE red flag. I wish I had done more research before getting it, it basically ruined my life for almost a year. I would passionately advise ANYONE not to get it.

I had to reply to the negative posts, as I have a positive result with the Mirena IUD. Its been 5 months for me now and I am middle aged. I decided to get this because of my age and did want to keep everything in tack and have no more children. I had very light periods for 4 months and it has now stopped, no cramps, no mood changes or depression, no acne and definetly no weight gain and have lost 14 lbs since having the IUD in place. As far as discharge or odors none here and my sex drive is better than ever. Maybe it's just not for everybody but I love it!!! :-P

Hi,

Iam going for a biopsy tomorrow for a lump they found on Monday, I originally went for pain in my Breast. I have had my Mirena for 11 months now am wondering if this could have anything to do with it?? I thought for sure I read somewhere in the thread about the Mirena being associated with a certain type of Breast Cancer. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. They said they are convienced that it is beign due to the shape of the lump but Im still really worried and if this thing has anything to do with it I want it out.

Thank you for any advice.

omg i have had the mirena coil for nearly 5 yrs now and i have every symptom that you all talk about . i have been on antidepressants for almost the same lenght of time and i never made the connection before now , i also have ibs and always put the regular pains in my side and hips and almost everywhere down to that . also my weight went up especially around tummy area . i often spend a whole day in bed crying with pmt even though my period might not even come and put all that down to suffering with depression which i probably wouldnt even suffer with if i never got that bloody thing put in . i also put the palpitations sweats and anxiety all down to depression medication not even thinking it could be the coil. i am now going to make an appointment to have this thing removed and i look forward to hopefully having a proper memory again and feeling my age 37 and not like someone that is just existing .

OMG I havn't really realized this before... Untill reading all these messages. I have had this IUD in for 7 months now. and didn't realize any of this till now. I had it done because i have used almost every kind of berth controll and I always manage to get pregnant. Only two of the 6 pregnancies made it to term. But at any rate. I feel so useless all the time. like i am 150 years old. and i am only 28 I was losing my hair in the beginning. I had a soft ball size bald spot on the side of my head. My hair is thin all over. I have put on 30 pounds. I find myself to be a rather driven person and now I feel like i have the flue. One minute i am freezing the next i am sweating my butt off. I have acne really really bad. I have always had a problem with acne when i had my son. But have been able to manage it on my own. Now it's everywhere. I feel like a monster. And just recently the cramping has started and bloody discharge. but i just figured it's been stress related. My boobs hurt and are slightly leaking. like holy frig. I feel pregnant. But I am not... The 30 pound thing bugs me the most i hate that big time. I have no energy not even to do the dishes. And sleep my sleep has gotten better. but only when i take a double dose of nytol. and thats not good eather. I have been to sleep clinics and have quit my job too. because i thought it was work related stress. and Yes i cry one minute and am happy the next. I am really concidering to have this removed but i am terrified to get pregnant.
You girls out there that have had it removed.... is there any other birth controll out there that works better than this? I really must know

Hello all... I am a 34 year old with 2 children. I had Mirena inserted on September 14, 2005 after my daughter was born. I have experienced all of the following symptoms : Migraines, headaches, fatigue, SEVERE mood swings, weight gain ( about 15 pounds that I cannot take off) depression, cystic acne on my face, neck and back, and most recently painc attacks. It is due to come out this september 2010, however, I just made an appointment to have it removed in 2 weeks. ( that was the earliest they could fit me in) I feel sad when I read all of these comments because for the past 4 and a half years, I have been living like this. it upsets me that I didn't see these message boards before. I work in the medical field and have been told by several ER physicians to have this removed and I didn't listen. I am excited to have it out and I will let you all know after it comes out how I am doing. Good luck to all of you, :-)

I had the mirena fitted on march 15th of this year, not as a contraceptive but for relief from endometriosis.I have had no end of problems since the day it was inserted.......severe migraines, mood swings, cramps that feel like contractions and have me doubled over in pain, weight gain, spots and now an awful fishy discharge!! After reading that im not the only one that is experiencing these problems i am somewhat relieved.......the only problem i now have is that if i have it removed my endometriosis will return and my only other option will be to have a hysterectomy (and im only 32).......but it cant be any worse than this iud!!

I have been trying to figure out if I want to remove the mirena...... I'M THINKING DEFINITELY ! I had anorexia and this birth control is makin my anorexia issues 100 xxxx's worse/ I feel fine for like two weeks and then all of a sudden I feel and look three-six mo's pregnant. I bloat like there's no tomorrow. my pants start to pop the buttons off. w.t.f ? I never really bleed and when I do I am so surprised I have had cramps for likw two wekkks straight and then bam I blled for like one day. again wtf? How can you go from absolutely normal to a P.M.S hell for two weeks straight. I would much rather let my body do it's own natural thing. The Mirena iud is a Monster demon that was sent from hell !

hello, i had my mirena put in 6weeks after my daughter was born and i am so surprised at what is being reported on this site... I am surprised cos i am having really weird symptoms; weight gain 30kgs, hair falling out, head aches, insomnia and a few others that have been reported on this site....
it has been there for four years my daughter turned 4 just last month and one thing my now exhusband reported was that he could feel something strange when he had intercourse with me... so much that he stopped having sex with me... so that is that... sounds like i should get it out...

I just visited the doctor's office and she presented the MMirena IUD as a wonderful alternative to the pill. I truly appreciate the stories you've shared about the side effects! I can now return to my PCM and let her know that I will pass on using this device; it seems safer, so far, to stick with the pill.

Hi ladies,

I'm so upset. I got my IUD in on March 30th and today it was taken out b/c it had done a 180 degree turn!! This was my 3rd visit back to the doctor's office in 3 mos to check the darn thing!!! I guess, in a way, it's a God send. I DID do my research but obviously not good enough b/c I never came across the website. And now I recognize some symptoms that were not included in the literaure i.e headaches, insomnia - which is so crazy b/c I usually sleep through the night. But as of late, I would just wake up, heart pounding??? Also, the fishy smell - SO NASTY. Luckily, I can rush home for lunch to re-fresh but still...YUCK!!!! And how about the spotting that NEVER stops. Sure, it's not a full period but it's constant and not sexy. So, now I guess it's back to the Pill. I really started the IUD to lighten or STOP the periods- my flow is so HEAVY now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Any other suggestions to stop a heavy flow and kill major cramps :'( 8-|

I have had my IUD in for 2 years and LOVE IT!!!!!! No problems what so ever! Before this one i had on in for abt a year. Had it removed to get preggers again--which i did 30 days after having it removed. The "fluid" is from the string. The cervix is surrounded by glands which secrete a fluid when it is irriated--have the placement checked to be sure its not irrating yur cervix. I have no periods, and have gotten smaller than my pre pregency weight--which i diod not return to before baby #2. I'm not one of these psyco moms who is at the gym and watching what she eats. And i'm not a lucky one who can eat what evr she wants w/o gaing anything. It just takes time for your body to adjust to a hormone being forced into your body--which is what all b/cs are. I can't handle estrogen--if i take an estrogen based b/c i get constant, horriable yeast infections--give me a wire brush kind---so for me its either this or Depo--but... why go back every 12 weeks when i can just have this put in!
