I also have pain when doing a wee, feels like my bladder is falling out!! I'v had to take time off work because of the back pain i'm having and am on painkillers that are so strong that they make me feel drunk. Can't do ANYTHING physical, even playing with my children leaves me in agony,im so depressed about the situation and wish i'd never had it put in.Next route for me is hysterectomy as i had to put in to help relieve pain from endometriosis, but i'm worse than i ever was before! I'd strongly advise anybody to think long and hard before having a mirena because i know i certainly wasn't told about these side affects, and if i was i would never have had it done.

I got Mirena in oct 2007 after I had my daughter. Ever since then, i have had anxiety that just keeps getting worse and worse. I have even developed a tremor or shake in my hands when it is in certain positions. At first I freaked out about and had an MRI to rule out anything serious. My MD says it is from stress/anxiety. After researching mirena side effects I have realized I am not the only person who has had severe anxiety as a side effect from it. I also have NO sex drive, and i feel blah all the time. I have never felt like this, and I am convinced it is from Mirena. My doc put me on Klonipin, which helps relax me to go to sleep, but I still always feel shaky and nervous. When I thought back, the side effects started soon after I got it, and have just slowly gotten worse. I made an appt to get it out in 2 weeks, but now I am afraid of this "Mirena crash" I have been reading about. I don't want to feel any worse than I already do! Also, I didn't have a period for a long time, and now I am starting to get it irregulary like once a week, and I have had cramping, and muscle cramps. I hope I will feel like my old self again once I get it out!

one of the side effects of mirena is that it changes your vaginal discharge; it is also one of the ways it helps prevent pregnancy. However, I would have a Doctor check for BV. I will agree mirena is convenient. but after 4 years of weight gain, depression, NO sex drive, acne, excessive sweating, i had mine removed. I thought I was going crazy and I felt I was being a horrible wife because of the lack of sex drive. I blamed my symptoms on stress. but believe it or not, a day after it was removed I felt like a different person.

Hi ladies, I have had my mirena for 7 months now and it has been absolute hell. I had it put in because I have four children and was actually at the hospital to have my tubes tied but was told that there is a 1 in 200 chance of falling pregnant again and get heavier periods. They told me about the mirena so we opted for it. When returning home I had severe cramps and rang the hospital and they said that my body was trying to reject it and the cramps will subside, they did after two days. Since then I have gained 10 kilos in weight I have acne all over my face, severe headaches, aching of the legs.My breasts ache all the time and I have the feeling that I am pregnant nearly all of the time(not nice). The worst is the discharge with the disgusting smell, I feel unclean most of the time and am paranoid when it comes to having sex. I did see my doctor about it a couple of months and he gave me some antibiotics but they have done nothing. I have made an appointment to have it out this week and back to the old Pill... HALLELUYAH :-D .

I've been having some brain fog as well. I can't seem to remember much of anything, to be honest.
I've only had my IUD for a month - and I haven't stopped bleeding yet, and have had cramps to go along with it the whole time. My doctor said that that's normal.
If the things weren't so bloody expensive, and if there were a reasonable alternative, I'd just have it taken out now. I had a copper IUD for the past 3 years, and my periods were 10 days long on that. I also hadn't realized that the copper IUD doesn't prevent pregnancy...just implantation. That's why I got the Mirena.

I have had my IUD in for 6 months and have experienced many health issues that I did not even relate to the IUD until I read some of these posts. I have had hair loss, coming out in patches leaving me bald in places, recent changes in skin colour, weight gain that I can not get rid of no matter what I do, and anemia. The headaches are something I never had before either. I've been to the doctor several times and she says everything is fine but why are these things happening????? Then I realized it has to be this IUD since everything started happening once it was put in. My theory is everytime you put something in your body there will be a reaction. Anyway I grabbed the strings this morning and pulled it out. I read in one post that the lady felt 10 pounds lighter, I have to say I feel the same way. Hubby can go get snipped!!!!!!

Thankyou so much ladies for putting this up, I had a appointment today to have my marina inserted, after reading the booklets the Doctor gave me, I have just got off the phone to cancel my appointment. I have read far to many similar quotes on this site to go ahead with this procedure.

Once again thankyou.

beware of the T shaped devil!!!

PPH won't tell you all of the side effects I ended up experiencing: anxiety attacks, chest pain, migraine, depression, no sex drive. I am getting it out after 6 weeks. Some women are okay on it, but not me. I wouldn't chance it. I predict in a few yrs, it will go off the market because of all the problems it poses.

Good luck ladies! :-S

I have had my Mirena iud for almost 19 months. I had it inserted right after I had my son. For the past 17 months everything has been wonderful. I still had monthly period but they were much lighter and shorter. However, for the past two months everything has gone downhill. I have chronic headaches, SEVERE mood swings, panic attacks, heart palpatations, pelvic pain, cramping in both my stomach and legs, and no sex drive. And just within the last month and a half, my period keeps starting and stopping in two week incruments. My periods are much thicker and there is a ton of clear gooey discharge(sorry it is the only way I can explain it). On a positive note, I haven't gained weight with the IUD. I actually lost almost 55 pounds. To all those women out there who are thinking about getting a mirena, make sure you do your homework. And for all the women who have it make sure you keep track of any symptoms you may have. Because you may wake up one day and be in a world of hurt. These symptoms seem to be happening to a lot of women and for some like me, it didn't start happening until almost 17 months after I had it inserted.

I had my IUD placed in Nov 08. The no period deal is great. But listen i would rather have a period than be so dang cranky, depressed, fat, no sex drive , fatigued, major anxiety. For months i've been trying to loss weight but instead i keep gaining like 5 pds a month. Total weight gain since it was placed is around 25 pds. I feel horrible.I have constant horrible vaginal discharge with an odor. Sometimes changing underwear several times a day. I have 2 healthy kids, a great husband, a home and vehicle paid for, wonderful family. But I just seemed to be down in the dumps all the time. Antidepressant nor antianxieties helped. This Crazy thing is coming out. The site is great for helping me not to feel so alone and it confirms it needs to come out

WOW! This site has really opened my eyes, I just wish I would have looked into it earlier. I have had the Mirena for 3 years now. I have all the symptoms that everyone is talking about nausea, tiredness, no sex-drive, irritability, sudden sadness, anxiety, forgetfulness and severe migraines. They gave me medicine for the migraines which has helped but after reading this I am still concerned about everything else. I have wanted to take it out for awhile now because of all of these, I only assumed the IUD was the reason and kept changing my mind because it is the first form of birth control that worked that is in the sense I haven't gotten pregnant since having my 3 year old son. I now plan on making an appointment first thing in the morning, I know I probably won't be my old self immediately but hopefully I soon won't have to deal with all these crazy emotions. I now know I would never recommend the Mirena after reading this. Thank you everyone for your information.
