Hi. Many people with mitral stenosis have no symptoms at all. Mitral stenosis is a heart valve disorder which occurs in people who have had rheumatic fever. Some other disorders can cause mitral stenosis, but rarely. Mitral stenosis can be congenital. Rheumatic fever is the main risk factor. The prognosis is different for patients with mitral stenosis. It depends on the type of disorder. If the symptoms of mitral stenosis are mild, or if you have no symptoms, you should be fine. If the symptoms are severe, on the other hand, complications may be life threatening. You can control such disorder with treatment. Valvuloplasty and surgery are also included in treatment options.
