Biopsy of a few nodules of my left side tongue in sept 06 states mucosal neuroma. This maybe associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndrome which can lead to thyroid cancer and adrenal pheochromocytoma. 2nd biopsy of left side of tongue shows foliate pappilitis (chronic inflamed papillae), but both looks and felt the same. Both biopsy done at different hospital. Now after 5 months, there is some redness and something which looks like red papillae come out but I felt numb and pain on this part. My docs couldn’t make out what it is unless they do another biopsy which they hesitant as mucosal neuroma is not cancerous and cannot operate on my tongue so often. Some says it is scar tissue, some docs says it could be neuroma. This is a very rare disease and in Malaysia docs haven’t seen this on the tongue before. Docs have now ruled out MEN as urine catecholamines and ultra sound shows normal in Oct 06. No family history of MEN. Suggest that I take another complete tests in June 07. Can mucosal neuroma appear without MEN? Can I get MEN in future even I don’t have it now because of mucosal neuroma? Will my son and husband gets infected? Pls help, URGENT.
