I had the mucus stools that increased in frequency. It didn't happen to my baby until after 6wk immunisations. Baby was 8 wks when she had them. I suspected gluten sensitivity affecting my baby through what I was eating going into my milk. Since going completely gluten free she is back to normal. I RECON the vaccinations may have made my baby sensitive to gluten! Then I aasked the nurse on our last visit what exactly is in a vaccine on a molecular level and she said that some vaccines use egg protein. WELL we think our children are more allergic to some eggs than others so we are in the process of raising some gluten free chickens. The gluten in the eggs may be what people are reacting to . And what if that gluten put into vaccines is trigering an immune response in some people making them then sensitive to gluten and therefore eggs too because of the gluten that they contain. I suggest fellow mothers take out the gluten from your diet entirely and see if things improve.

I was very thankful to find this post. After the first dose of Rotavirus vaccine, my daughter experienced two weeks of vomiting and diarrhea. Our doc postponed the second dose two months. I started the total elimination diet a week ago. My daughter was doing much better, even sleeping through the night. Then we went to get the second dose of the vaccine, and she began to have large amounts of mucus in her stool, and will hardly sleep during the day or night. I did see that one of the ingredients in the vaccine in gluten. I'm wondering if that's the problem or it's just she has contracted the virus again.

I know that these posts are all a little older, but I'm noticing that a few people are talking about food allergies. It is actually very uncommon for babies to be sensitive to things that the mom eats while exclusively breastfeeding. If the baby has discomfort, it is most likely due to the latch, not what mama is eating. Even if moms eat a lot of dairy, it's not as if the dairy is being directly eaten by the baby. Mom's body converts everything into the usable breastmilk.
Also, babies are never "allergic" or sensitive to breastmilk, unless there are catastrophic congenital issues. Formula is made with dairy, which has been scientifically proven to cause minute fissures and bleeding in babies' intestines. Even if only giving one formula bottle a day, this could be the culprit. Cow's milk is quite difficult on our human digestive systems, as gluten can be, too.
I found a lot of great information on Dr. Jack Newman's website: drjacknewman.com. I now believe that elimination diets are a figment of the formula industry, in order to make breastfeeding seem as difficult as possible.
Remeber: Doctors receive no formal breastfeeding training or information during their schooling. What they have learned, in most cases, is anecdotal and antiquated!

I don't agree that it's uncommon for babies to be sensitive to breastmilk. I think what the mom eats does affect the breastfed baby. Like broccoli does give some gas. Bananas affects mine. This is my 4th breastfed baby. My baby has had the green foamy poop since birth and we are still trying to figure it out. Of course the dr. wants me to go to formula but I say no. I have eliminated dairy, and soy. He now has green mucusy poop and every now and then a tinge of blood. I am starting to think gluten. We are testing next week for that. He is almost 5mo and has been gaining weight and growing but does not have normal stools

wow.... this thread has been going strong since 2006!! it's 6.9.09. daaayum.

anyway.... i'd say about 90% of the posts say the symptoms started after their little ones were injected with rotovirus.

maybe it's just me, but i see a HUGE link between the bloody stools and the injection.

my granddaughter, 9 weeks, ended up in the hospital for 48 hours with a 103.7 fever and bloody stools. the er doc immediately is screaming for a spinal tap to test for infant meningitis. i was saying no, but my daughter (19) was so terrified that she agreed along with her boyfriend.

the incompetent er staff stuck her 4x in the spine. at least that's what it appeared to me after she got home from the hospital and i checked her back out. she had 4 marks that resembled a tb tine test. however, they were not in a perfect square.

during her stay, they gave her a 30 min drip of antibiotics every 12 hours.

they came back with the diagnosis of salmonella poisoning. okaaaay. this is and exclusively breastfed baby. but the salmonella is possible because they do have a snake. pediatrician put her on the pink stuff for the next 10 days. that began on 6.3.09

here it is 6.9.09 and she still has the bloody stools. you would think that after 48 hours of antibiotic iv drip and 6 days of the pink stuff, she'd be all better by now.

she had a dr. appt. today. as of this posting, i haven't heard from my daughter.

does this stop? i read no posts to say that the stools have returned to normal. please someone correct me if i'm wrong. because i want to know that this does indeed end.

it is very very frustrating. especially with all the docs saying that it can't be their precious injections. eugenics anyone?

btw the cdc has admitted that autism is caused by these injections. check out this interview on cnn by sanjay gupta and julie gerberding, the head of the cdc. it'll blow your mind.

****

the only way to eliminate these needless injections or make them safer is to educate EVERYONE you know.

also if you get a chance check out the work of dr. russell blaylock

A couple of years ago my youngest son came down with a very high fever and a severe case of diarrhea after his 2-month Dtp shot. I was changing an average of 12-15 diapers a day/night. The fever went away after 3-4 days, but the diarrhea continued. After a week I began to notice bright red blood along with mucus in his diarrhea. I immediately called his Pediatrician and he didn't seem to be as concerned as I was. I ended up bringing him in the next day only to have the Dr. tell me that my son was allergic to me, or my breastmilk, that is. He said my son was lactose intolerant and that I was to stop breastfeeding immediately as he handed me a can of lactose-free baby formula. I was quite upset since I really wanted to breastfeed my son and had never heard of a child being allergic to their mother's milk. I decided not to take the Dr.'s advice and did some of my own homework. I also lived in a small town at that time and knew I didn't have many options for a second opinion. I ended up finding a wonderful and encouraging article online by the pediatrician, Dr. Jay Gordon (article can be found here: http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/pediatricks/dairy.asp) and he explained exactly what was going on with my son. He wasn't allergic to me after all, he had developed an allergy to something I was eating which was coming through my breastmilk. It was cow's milk protein (a.k.a. caseinate, whey, etc.). Another article (which I wish I could find again) explained it even better. It spoke about how my sons body had been weakened by the Dtp shot and as his body was developing an immunity (or wasn "fighting off" the diseases) it also began to fight off other foreign protein - in his case it was cow's milk protein, not lactose as the Dr. insisted. Knowing that breastmilk was the best for my baby and also knowing that it could take 2-3 weeks for my body to be rid of cow's milk protein, I immediately began a dairy-free diet that same day! My son continued to have the bloody-mucus and diarrhea for about 1-2 weeks after I started the diet, but then I began to notice a slow change in his stools. After about 3 weeks they began to look "normal" again and I was so relieved, and I'm sure he was too! During the entire 3-4 weeks of diarrhea I was sure to keep my son well-hydrated, breastfeeding him practically non-stop and changing the diaper immediately (day and night with warm water followed by plenty of A & D ointment) after each of his bowel movements - which with a breastfed infant is quite loud and obvious, even more so when they've got diarrhea! He didn't gain any weight during that time, maybe even lost a few ounces, but did fairly well. And just so you know, the dairy-free diet is not the easiest, that's for sure.. I sure missed my cheese! Cow's milk protein can be found in sooo many foods, you'd be surprised at how many. And even if you read the ingredients looking for milk in the list, most often times it's termed casienate or whey or some other term (there's a list online on the dairy free websites that you can print and take with you). Over time I could always tell when I had eaten something that had been tainted with milk as a slight bit of blood and mucus would show in my sons diaper within hours of eating the food item. He was so sensitive that I couldn't even eat dairy-free food that had been made in a factory that handled dairy products. I was told that because I kept him dairy-free he was able to grow out of the allergy rather quickly, around 11-12 months of age. Still breastfeeding him, I slowly began to introduce milk products back into my diet, starting with milk fats (butter) first and then eventually yogurt and then my yummy, yummy cheese that I so missed for those 10 or so months! But it was all worth it.. not only did I lose my "baby fat" in the shortest amount of time than I ever had with the other 3 boys, but my son is now a very healthy and rambunctious 2 year old. I have not taken him back for anymore shots since then.. I just don't want to take any more chances that something else may develop. I'd rather be safe, than sorry, if you know what I mean.

My hope and prayer is that my experience will help another parent going through the same or a similar situation, and that you and your little ones are relieved very soon :-)

Blessings to you..

My exclusively breastfed baby received 1st Rotateq 2 weeks ago. She had infrequent green stools prior to vaccination. I could always trace them to something I ate or drank. After vaccination, they increased immediately, and I could not link to food or drink. By one week after vaccine, stools were exclusively green and much more frequent than had been normal. She seems happy & healthy other than frequent green stools and intermittent low fever. It has been 2 weeks since vaccine.

I am also so happy to have found this site. My son received his 2nd dose of Rotateq when he was 12 weeks old (only 4 weeks after the 1st). Within a couple hours of receiving the 2nd dose of the Rotateq vaccine, he began having green, really mucousy stools. I took him to the doctor the next day because I also noticed bright red blood in the poop. The doctor implied that the mucousy stools were not related to the vaccine, and possibly a coincidence, but I am sure they has everything to do with the vaccine - especially after reading all of the posts here!! He was perfectly fine leading up to the vaccine. My son is breastfed 100%. Up until this issue, he was having 1-2 BM per day, and now he is having 9-10 BM, all with the green mucousy stool. It has been a week and half and I have seen no improvement. The doctor said that if everything else seems normal to wait it out.
I am writing because I really need someone to tell me how I can help my son get rid of this, and how long this will last. It appears very painful for him when he needs to poop, but other than that, he seems normal.
Please help!!

I have the same theory. My baby's stool was perfect until the first ROTAVIRUS vaccine (2 months old). The we start seeing a little bit of blood now and then for a week after the vaccine, and then it all went away. After his 2nd ROTAVIRUS vaccine (4 months) problems came back and he still still has the mucus/bloody stool. Next week is the last shoot (6 months) with ROTAVIRUS vaccine and I don't know what to do...

hi - I absolutely would not give your baby the 3rd shot since he had such a bad reaction to the last two. I am still looking for an answer on how long this lasts and if there is anything you can give your baby to help get rid of the green/mucousy poop.

Hi -
I posted 09/28/09. I just wanted to follow up to say that it took exactly one month for my son to get over this. We just had to be patient and let it pass. I visited two doctors and neither of them could think of anything that would help my son get over this quicker. I also filed a report with VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) and encourage everyone else who has this problem with Rotateq to do the same. The website to file your report is:

Thanks!

Mine is a little different story. Pls help.

My baby is 4.5mths now. never vaccinated and will never be vaccinated! About a mth ago she had a high fever and they found bacteria in her blood. They forced us to do a spinal tap that we refused at first but relented (BIg Freaking mistake) the Dr screwed up really badly. Didn't wait for her to be hydrated. Didn't want to give pain medicine bcos "oh she will forget about it in an hour..." (Whatever!) and didn't even do it in a sterile environment. And made me bend her back to "give her an opening into the spine" (What the Heck?) Anyway... the stupid Dr didn't get any CSF and therefore they treated my baby as "Presumed Meningitis" with high doses of Rocephin and Gentramicin 3 times a day. Finally after 1 week they find out it wasn't Meningitis but it was called Acinetobactor lwoffi and lowered the dose and only to 1x a day. She received antibiotics for 14days.

Now 2 weeks later, she started having green poop (3 days ago). Oh and now she poops practically after every feeding or so and is very gassy since the antibiotics and they said Diarrhea was a side effect. I mean like bad gassy to a point poop comes out! Before she would poop every other day or 2. Today 3 days later she had a fever of 100.6F and there was so much green jelly mucous! Her basal temp is between 97.6-98.4F only. What do i do?
PS - I had eliminated milk for the last 2 mths but started drinking it about a week ago. But Fever?
