Kind of redundant, no? I wake up several times a night to floppy arms. This has been happening for about 2 years now I have no idea why. Could it be the mattress?
hmmm... do you sleep on your back, stomach or side? Are your arms underneath you when you fall asleep?

Could be a back problem, you may want to tell your doctor about it.

Do you somehow manage to sleep on top of BOTH of your arms at the same time? That's the only way I can see that you could put both of your arms to sleep at the same time.

I mostly sleep on my side. Which ever arm I'm laying on falls asleep. I try not to lay completely on my arm. I've slept this way for years and It used to almost never happen. If I sleep on my stomach both arms fall asleep.

omg! this happens to me too, but its usually my hands that fall asleep. its bad enough that it wakes me up earlie in the am...

whats the deal? i guess i usually sleep on my side/stomach...

Could be that the position you're in when on your side is impinging on the nerves in your arm, which is causing it to fall asleep. Try moving your arm out from under your side and see if that helps.

Not much to add here but I must recommend that you do NOT try any cartwheeling down the hall when you get up, achey... :P

Do you wake up with your arms or hands above your shoulders? This happens to me occasionally and it hurts. The blood doesn't effectively pump to your arms. What with that pesky brain being a priority and all. I was all panicked the first time it happened and a friend explained something about the positions. I don't know, she is a nurse, I guess I'll take your reasoning.

Most likely you are cutting a large percentage of blood off to your extremity. Are you by chance over weight? Not neccesarily a reason but it could be. A few years ago I had a patient that had a similar situation and whenevr her arm raised to a certain elevation it would impinge the flow to her lower arm. This may be causing that. I would suggest speaking to your physician about this the next time you go see him/her.
Hope you get your answer soon.

My arms sometimes feel like they are asleep, but very painful. The only way to ease the pain is to hold my arms straight down by my side. What could that be?
