Hello, your review was so helpful. I had mine out today. I was in dire straights this mourning but now I feel better. I'm 38 and I was extremely afraid. My doc was giving me lortab but decided to right me a script for Tylenol codein. I'm so glad he did. I'm up and I've eaten some soft fruit. And Jello my wife got is awesome. I was going to try orange popcycles but now banna will be best. I heard icecream can cause mucus buildup so I'm staying away. I can understand why tho. Warm water and chicken noodle soup has been helpful. My uvula is huge but I did talk my doc into a steroid shot before I got discharged. I had already completed a full coarse if amoxicillin prior. He gave me shorted coarse to take also. But I'm so glad I came across this. I was pushing to get different pain meds and I couldve gotten sicker. Thanks for sharing. I learned a few other things that helps. I'm also going to start my vitamins back tommorow., vitamine a, c, k, b complex, pro biotic, and calcium mag zinc, as well as omega 3. These vitamins helps with everyday health as well as recovery. Can't wait to take them. Natures made is awesome for vitamines. For anyone else who reads this. Avoiding milk products, citrus anything including certain pop cycles helps. Tylenol codein instead if stronger pin meds is better. The key to feeling better is not sleeping all day and keeping the throat hydrated mouth clean and gargle with salt water.

I had my tonsils removed four days ago. I stayed overnight and was in pain but felt safe in a hospital environment and the painkillers were good then. My first night home was the day after surgery. I was in pain but could eat things like toast fine and was thinking it would be a breeze. Anyway that night I woke up at 12am to vomit all down my chest. Unable to cry or do much I was in a huge panic and in the most pain I've ever been in before. I ran to the toilet and was vomitting up barely anything for the next 10 minutes. After that I went back to bed with the most horrible burning sensation in my throat. Then I would wake up every hour with my body trying to vomit but not having anything to dispose of. So it would mean I'd be there sweating like crazy throwing up my stomach lining. The past three days I've noticed that the pain is still so so so bad but my depression has gone crazy. The amount of times I lay down and don't want to wake up again is insane. If I knew what the pain would be like I would have never had this operation. For a 21 year old living with huge tonsils and being sick constantly and always fatigued has been hard yes. But this pain isn't worth it. The depression and feelings of not wanting to wake up make this operation a big regret of mine. I'm hoping to see some light at the end of the tunnel but at the moment there is none :(

Hi teana, how was it after a year of surgery. Does the surgery help? No more sore throat? My son gets the sore throat almost every month with fever so I am thinking about tonsillectomy. Maybe you can give me some advise whether to go through it or not. Btw, I am from the Philippines also.

Hi Teana! I'm from Philippines too and my ENT doctor advised me to have my tonsils removed asap because of its big size and could lead to RHF (wag naman sana). How long did the pain last? I hope to hear from you soon.

So i had my operation two weeks ago yesterday. Prior to the op i (thought i had) received really good pre op care which continued throughout the day of the op. I had read all these stories on line about the horrendous pain etc but was reassured that it wouldnt be that bad if i just kept on top of my meds. I found alot of what has been told to me by the professionals has been quite contradictory to what is told in the US (im in the UK). For instance, we are told to eat normal foods to encourage any c**p that forms on the scabs to go down the throat so we dont get infection.
Anyway, i was discharged with codeine, paracetamol, ibuprofen (which others have been told not to use in case of blood loss) and difflam mouthwash. I had my phone set to alarm every four hours for my pain relief and gargled four times a day with the mouthwash.
The day before my op i went shopping and stocked up on water, ice and pajarmas. I had previously bought a fillable ice pack which quickly became my best friend!
So i was all set to go home and watch my box set of Game of Thrones in between naps (my medication and water intake continued throughout the night to prevent the dreaded dry throat). It was difficult to eat but i forced a quarter of a sandwich down (with plenty of water) with every meds.
I basically followed the instructioms i was given to a T. Then day 2 post op came and i woke choking on blood. Again, i followed the advice i was given for such an event ie gargle ice water and apply ice pack. After 20 minutes, it became apparent this was not workin so I took myself off to the hospital. The bleeding was slow but steady during the journey but as i pulled into the carpark i felt a choking sensation and a large bloodclot (about the size of a pingpong ball) came out. The bleeding then stopped. I gad a quick check over by the dr who informed me i could go home and that there was a small clot still in my throat.
Days 4,5 and 6 were awful for the pain but i also felt very fed up and quite low. When discharged from my op i was given 5 days worth of medication and instructed to see my gp for more. Which would have been great, had there been any appointments available. I ended up going to the walk in on day 6 in a lot of pain. Obviously i had scabs but the nurse who checked me over took the wooden tongue depresser and scrapled at my throat! I cant even describe the pain that caused! Anyway, the dr was good and gave me more meds.
Day 7 i woke with bleeding but not as bad as previous.
Day 8 i noticed the pain subsiding
Days 9, 10, 11 i had some pain but could go out and about for short whiles. Excited at this point itvwas coming to an end!
Or so i thought :-(
Day 12 i noticed a hole in the throat lining at the back of my mouth. I had noticed water going up my nose when i drank but didnt really think anything of it. After googling the cause it became apparent that as o had bled quite a bit during the op the surgeon had inadvertently burnt through this lining.
Day 13 i visited my gp about the hole and she seemed quite shocked and said i had an infection and put me on antibiotics with instruction to come back the following week.
Day 14 or the worst day ever!
I woke with blood literally pouring out of my mouth. I went straight to hospital where i was rushed through to majors with the ENT and anaesthetist team called immediately. I was prepped for surgery and hooked up to drips of fluids, pain relief, antibiotics and anti nausea. Without a doubt, the scariest few hours of my life! Thankfully, however, the bleeding subsided. I was kept in for 24hrs and told there was a very small chance i would not need an operation which really upset me as i did not want to go back to day one. The dr then told me i was already on day one from the minute i bled.
Im home now with instructions to take another two weeks rest and a load of antibiotics. Im hopeful itl work and i can get past this.
