I’m 72 and had this procedure 3 weeks ago. I had general anesthesia rather than local. My recovery was minimal only 2-3 days no catheter. It seems to have worked well as my pee stream is noticeably stronger about 60-75% better than prior. I still get up at night and hope that recedes with time. My bladder empties much faster, b4 took up to 2 minutes, now down to about 20-30 seconds!! Great! I had a very positive experience and highly recommend it!

Hey Bruce

Why is your doctor so against Urolift. If this is the procedure you want, go for it. Trails say 3 to 5 years, but it can last longer than that. I had mine done 8 years ago and I'm still wide open. No side effects at all. All the best to you Ken

I had a Urolift done 7 weeks ago. My whole goal in doing it was to get off of Flomax and Cialis. Well 7 weeks after the Urolift, I still have to take the meds. I do have a slightly better flow rate afterwards, but I have tried to stop taking the meds and I just cannot go pee w/out them.

The recovery from the procedure wasn't as bad as some had. I had a lot of clotting. On the 2nd day after I had a clot so big I thougth i was going to have to go to the ER. LUckily I had a disposable catheter at home and I was able to pass it. My doc gave me lots of pain pills. So that helped.

I had a Urolift about 3 years ago. No complications from it but also, no improvements to my ability to pee/void.
I felt like the doctor just rushed to do it to get points towards a vacation in Hawaii. I finally went back to a different urologist about a month ago and they said my residual in my bladder was .8 liters. They did a ultrasound of my kidneys and saw that one was extremely swollen. Went to the ER and over a 2 hour period with a catheter, they emptied 1.4 L out of me. Now I have to self-catheter every 3-4 hours. Going in for a Urodynamic test on Monday (the procedure sounds fun!). If my bladder still has strength they may look at shaving away part of my prostate. Again, I feel my original urologist rushed to get the Urolift done without looking at all aspects.

I AM DOING FINE. NO ISSUES. GET UP ONCE AT NIGHT. GET BY DURING THE DAY WITH 3 TO 4 HOURS BEFORE NEEDING TO PEE, STRONG STREAM AND NO NEED FOR THE BLUE PILL OR ANY OTHER MEDS. GOOD LUCK. I HAD A VERY GOOD UROLOGIST. I THING THAT IS 75% OF THE PATH TO SUCCESS.

I had urolift 3 years ago, from the moment the cather came out I had violent urgency, 8 weeks later zero improvement, without Botox, or Messi can barely function. All urolift did is give me issues I never had before. My quality of life is severely affected. I finally had enough and seeing a new urologists next week. Hoping I can get some relief

Do not try to remove a Foley catheter yourself without first deflating the balloon that holds it in place.

Our son who is a CRNA has seen a lot of these and thinks it is a BS procedure.

Some improvement with daytime urination. Went from five times a night down to twice. Was told local anesthesia. Don’t believe that I would be put out if I were to do this again. It felt like a garden hose was up there. I was told no catheter went home with a Foley Would I do it again probably not. I would look into a PAE or I find Not ready for a TURP

I'm one month out , had blood clots 9 days po and couldn't pee. Er. Now I'm peeing better but still frequent. Dr said it takes 3 to 4 months but if frequency is still bad another surgery necessary. A bladder stimulate device which will mean no meds and lasts 15 yrs

Posting here in case someone thinking about urolift might read my experience. In 2019 I had six urolift clips (3 in each lobe). I suffered from these things for about three years. Just recently had things corrected and set right. I just had the HoLEP procedure at Vanderbilt by Dr Nicole Miller. These six clips with suture material had become inflamed and fibrotic according to Dr Miller. These had to be removed. Dr Miller had to cut these out.

Once cut out, the clips and all get pushed into the bladder and have to be removed with a grasper. This means more ins and outs. Plus Dr Miller had to “clean up” the fibrosis. So, Dr Miller explained to my wife that it would take me eleven weeks to totally heal. Thank God Dr Miller is so dedicated that she can correct what other urologist have totally mucked up. So, word to the wise, stay away from urolift. Doesn’t really matter that they call themselves a COE (center of excellence). Nothing excellent about doing the wrong procedure on a prostate too big for the procedure. HoLEP can treat any size prostate with a much much lower redo rate and minus the fibrosis. I spent 2 1/2 years suffering from urolift and I can’t believe the difference now. They tout urolift as the least invasive of the prostate procedures. Really? They need to come read the experiences on this forum. And I feel for all you guys that sold a bill of goods and suffered for it.

Forget their claims and get it right the first time. HoLEP is the new gold standard. I highly recommend Dr Miller at Vanderbilt. I’m Nate by the way. 67 years old.
