Hi my sister has loin pain hematuria syndrome and I was wondering her life expectancy rate for this disease.
It does not appear to be fatal. It does, however, cause discomfort and pain, anywhere from extreme to minor discomfort.
This disease of the kidneys is very rare and predominately affects females. Worldwide, only several hundred cases have been reported. The cause of LPHS is currently not known.
As the condition is rare and poorly understood, a widely adopted standard of care is not existent.
Pain management with opiate and non-opiate analgesia is common. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are thought to be beneficial, as they reduce intraglomerular pressure and, presumably, reduce renal tubular congestion with RBCs.
