Navicular cuneiform fusion because of arthritis.  My navicular and accessory navicular were being fused (the accessory was dis-placed by an injury and the two rubbing together was very painful).  My surgeon suggested fusing the navicular and 1st cuneiform as I had a lot of arthritis and so much pain that it was affecting my quality of life.  I was in almost constant, debilitating pain.  I had been a long distance runner from 15 - 31 years of age. Played tennis, swam, etc.  in general very athletic.   So, I had the navicular-cuneiform fusion done at the same time as the navicular-accessory navicular.   The navicular was done with 2 screws - one from each bone into the other bone.  The nav-cun was done with a plate between with two screws in each bone.  Continued pain - could not walk without a limp and pain was enough to keep me awake even after being off my feet for several  hours.   X-rays and MRI showed union, so my surgeon said that it was merely a matter of removing the hardware - that I was in the 3-5% of patients who could not tolerate the hardward.   I woke up in recovery with a cast up to my knee.  Surgeon explained that once he cut my foot open, he saw - by sticking a needle at the site of the union - that it was actually a non-union, or a fibrous (non-bone) union, so he had to re-fuse it.   This time he used a bone graft and 2 screws one from each bone into the other.    I've been non-weight bearing on crutches for 8 weeks.  Scheduled to see my surgeon in 2 days, at which time he said I'd be weight bearing in a cam boot.   I tried the cam boot just now - a lot of pain at the fusion site.  Anyone have experience with this kind of fusion?   Results?    I'm so worried that it didn't fuse this year either.....
