I used to wake at about 2-5am with anxiety followed by rapid bloating. I went to the doctor and had ultrasound, CT scan, and colonoscopy. All looks fine, but I have benign liver cysts. Tested for celiac: negative. My gastroenterologist says I'm gluten intolerant. I've been helped by the following things:
* I found an excellent myofacial therapist who worked on my intestines* I started eating oatmeal every morning and salad every day (high fiber diet)* I started making a concerted effort to exercise several times a week, even when work is busy, and to reduce stress* I eliminated gluten from my diet. This had a *very* positive effect. When I accidentially eat gluten, that night I have anxiety/bloating.* I also had pain in my gall bladder (but no gallstones when scanned). My gastroenterologist suggested trying peppermint oil, which relaxes the digestive system. One pill was enough to eliminate the gall bladder pain (after a brief increase in pain)--this was a few weeks ago...we'll see if it lasts.* I eat my largest meal at lunch instead of before bed
These things have been amazingly helpful. I no longer suffer from constipation, my bowels are regular, and I no longer have the nightly anxiety and severe bloating. However, I've noticed that I still have a little bloating most nights, and I'm still curious to know why. I'm shifting to eating organic as much as possible to see if that helps.

I have had this bloating gassy problem for years, IBS diagnosis from a colonoscopy, neg food allergy tests, neg celiac. have avoided certain foods. stopped carbs, tried protein shakes, i am very active but find that I am getting more and more sluggish and fatigued as time goes by. Im frustrated and have had Doctors say its in my head, depression, anxiety, stress but dont tell me how to fix it. embarassed and frustrated.
