NuvaRing causing acne??

I started NuvaRing 3 weeks ago and now I have horrible acne all over my face and some even on my neck, behind my ears and on my back. I blame this on the ring since it all started around the same time and my skin was clear before this. It is nice not having to take a pill everyday but I am going back to Yaz!

Girls, I am new to NuvaRing, I have tried all types of pills, and wanted to change or get of them because I used to get severe migraines and aura lights (which used to blind me for at least 15 minutes)!!! so I was desperate to find another solution.
NuvaRing, is easy to use, and since I'm using it I haven't had a single migraine/aura lights, which was my main concern!!!!
I'm really happy about this contraceptive, however I hate the fact that the copay is $50.00 for being a 3rd tier medication - this shouldn't be the case because side effects from other contraceptives are too bad for me... BTW, no acne on my case.

I started NuvaRing because I have a very heavy menstrual cycle and the doctor suggested it and said I'd love it. I do love that fact I don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday, but all of sudden my back and chest started breaking out. I'm already using acne medication on my face so I figured if it can't break out there it will go to other parts of my body. I'm taking this ring out Sunday! I just wish there was a pill that is not birth control to make my periods lighter

implanon made my face break out sooooo freaking bad and i lost my sex drive completely. no good for my marriage and i just started nuva ring this week and my face is a hot mess. when i wastnt on a B.C. i would have a few blemishes here and there but this is bad. they need to come up with B.C. for guys

Ive used the nuva ring for 4yrs now. i just moved and im in the process of finding a new dr. well i havent had my nuva ring in about 2 1/2 months now and i have completly broken out all over my face,neck,back,chest like im 14 again. Since ive started using the nuva ring 4yrs ago my skin was beautiful mayb a little bump once in a while. the nuva ring in my situation has regulated my hormones and completly killed my acne! I miss it! Dont have a dr apt for another 5wks n i feel like crying. think i jus may call n explain my problem n hopefully they can c me tomorrow. the nuva ring also regulated my period. i get it for 3-5 days, light to reg flo...verses heavy flo for 8days. Need my nuva ring asap

It seems that just like any meds nuva ring will have diff effects on diff ppl. I too have tried so many diff methods of BC. I had the most beautiful clear skin, and would get so many compliments that I was actully bashful about it, im a pretty shy person. But then I started BC, first I tried that shot because its nothing u have to remember daily, three months later I had terrible acne and gained 15 pounds! So I swiched to the pill, the acne calmed down and my weight went down 10lbs, but I still had very noticeable acne and of course tried every type of over the counter skin care products and home remedies that some helped and others worsened my acne. I would avoid going in public until I absolutely had to. Pretty much work and home. When I started my pack of pills late one month I became pregnant and went off the pill, after birth the doc gave me a birth control shot which I practically beg him that I didn't want it but he still gave it to me. Of course my skin flared up within two weeks. My next visit to the office I had my regular gyn doc, she explained the nuva ring and I gave it a shot, once a month, at home, and it might help my acne situation, why not. About a month later I noticed a huge difference, I still had breakouts, but nothing like before..I actully felt comfortable with waking up and having coffee and breakfast with the fam, before I would get to the bathroom asap to wash and use creams and bury my skin in coverup. Unfortunately with times so tough I had to stop the ring and go back to the pill, nuva ring was 70 with my insurance, the pill, 10. Back on the pill, beyaz, my skin flared up again, so I stopped all birth control and nothing seemed to change in my skin, then I looked back at some photos and realized that even tho the pill wasn't as effective as nuva ring it was having a positive effect on my skin, just not as great as the nuva ring. Thats my experience with it...recently I have gone back to the doc with new insurance and plus the new Obama health care thingy for birth control I am able to get the nuva ring again...FREE! I felt like it was Xmas, I can't wait to start it cuz it has been the only thing that worked for me. I cant vouch for meraina or what ever its called, the 5 year birth control, but if you want kids wait to get that one, I know ppl who have had it and than decided on children and have had a horrible time conceiving and tube pregnancies. My friends who have it and donot want more kids love it, but side effects very person to person. I guess that after my long story here is that you might have to just try diff methods until you find what works for you. Beyaz didn't work effectively enough for me, but it might for someone else, nuva ring worked excellent for me but may not in you. The only thing you can do is read up on it, from the actual site, know the side effects, just becuz it has side effects doesn't mean you'll get all of or any of em. Talk to your doc about what you want to try, why you want it, the cost and the time frame you should see results in, I would assume you should see any change within three months but im not a doc, and I would honestly go maybe 1 to 3 months longer than whatever time frame your doc suggests. Just because every person is different and your body could take a lil longer to get use to the change. I can not stress it more tho, every person is diff, the only thing that will bring you results is trying it. And somthing that got me threw my years of terrible acne depression and wanting to hide away in my bed was I would tell my self everyday that I am an amazing person, and think bout my personality and successes, my family, basically everything positive, if someone cant get past the fact that I have acne than that's their lost cuz im simply awesome! Dont let your acne kill you cuz beauty is much deeper than what u see on the surface.

I just remembered why I stopped taking the nuva-ring!

One week in and I have the following side-effects;

BAD cystic ACNE- normally have clear skin

GROUCHY, moody, depressed- I'm a pretty happy motivated person but I'm snappy grouchy and irritable all the time on the ring.

LOW SEX DRIVE- ummm who wants that?!

ABNORMAL DISCHARGE- yeah, no.

TIRED!- I sleep, and then sleep more and then still feel tired.

NAUSEA- uhhh the upset belly is not fun which then somehow turns into dizziness.

ALL in ALL I do not feel like myself, I really wanted to get back on birth control and give the nuva-ring another chance but I find that living a healthy happy life is much better than a life with constant side effects.

I'm not saying the nuva-ring won't work for you but it has given me some of the worst side effects I've ever had from contraceptive birth control, TWICE.

The first time side effects especially the mood swings and tiredness. I eventually couldn't stand it anymore and the acne got so bad I figured it had to do with the ring.

I was free of the ring for almost 6 months and felt great! Motivated, energetic, clear skin and of course happy!

Second try; here I am online researching and reading and figuring out oh yes, this is why all these crazy things are happening to my body again.

I do not recommend the ring, just remember the pill.

I just got my nexplanon(the same thing as implanon) taken out a couple of weeks ago because it caused me to gain 10 pounds and cystic acne, and switched to nuva ring. Now i am beginning to get acne again while on nuva ring:/

Once I started my second month of Nuva Ring, my acne got out of this world bad! I have had the occasional pimple or two pop up now and then, but now I have them all on my jaw line and chin. I have scars from these pimples now on my face. Needless to say, I stopped the Nuva Ring, just now. Not worth the hell of having terrible acne all over my face.

I'm having the exact same problem; do you mind my asking what you went to, the only other thing I've tried is orthotricyclin.

I used Nuvaring for three years with no acne... I stopped it 9 months ago, and I have had the worst acne I have had in my life! I am reading now what to do about it now, probably go to a dermatologist.

I just started using nuvaring at the beginning of this week and already my chest and arms are breaking out, and getting rashes. Also i am experiencing mood swings. I am considering if I should stick it out for the three months that my doctor suggested. She says my body will get adjusted to the hormones.

Yes! Check common side effects. You may want to talk to your doctor about alternatives and weigh the pros and cons

I've been on Nuvaring for 18 months. Never had problems during the contraception. As soon as I stopped it, i had a severe breakout and it's now 4 months. No significant improvement despite the ring out. Never had acne all my life long. I am so sad...
